I just wanted to stop in and say thanks again to the translators. I'm eagerly awaiting the completion of the 5th+ volumes :)

Hey guys, just wanted to drop a line saying thank you for all your work, Accel World kinda took my world by storm when i got forced to read the first chapter and literally couldn't stop till i finished up everything that's up (in order anyway ^^; haven't read past vol 5).

Ah, in case it gets taken the wrong way, in no way am i implying that not having the chapters translated in order is bad, it's definately frustrating to an avid reader but at the same time, i understand that the volumes are translated out of order purely by voluntary work from multiple translators and i should(and am) be grateful that anyone is translating them at all.

Technically, it's a Dengeki Daioh (magazine that serialize Railgun) cameo.
That said though, it is the August 2012 volume, probably the only time Chiaki got on the cover, which is easily more than half a year ago.
There's been 5 covers without Misaka since then (she gets on it a lot), so there might be some sort of reason for it?
I'm not expecting anything, considering the lack of material to adapt.

I see. Though I believe more than half of the J->E and C->E translators are not Westerners, or at the very least, they are of Asian ethnicity despite their 'base' of operations

Here you go, https://twitter.com/kunori/status/320751053454864385

The one asking is actually HimekoTachibana (and it's @AzNisPolly not @AzNizpolly, that simple typo made my search much harder). And yes, he just asked what Kawahara feels about his project...

On an unrelated note, Kawahara actually like Tohka (DAL)... https://twitter.com/kunori/status/320248490007605248

First of all, hi guys! I've got Internet access courtesy of a laptop provided by the higher-ups, so...hmm, they might be tracking this message at this very moment. I shall not say more about how and why I'm able to access BT.

(Unfortunately Animesuki is blocked here. I'll access via my iphone in about...2.5 more weeks.)

On more serious matters:

theUnbreakableSky wrote:He's answered stuff like "Does Cyan Pile have any other IS skills?", "How do you feel about fan translations of your work into English?" and others, so I think its safe to say any question is okay.

Well, just my opinion.

(For the record, he said he was happy his work is being translated by people like us. :D)

Seriously? Show me that tweet please. Kind of surprised since his work is popular enough to be licensed. :D Quite unlike Izuru, who had a fit when his publishers got his work licensed in Chinese (or something like that; pardon me if I got it wrong) :P

Seeing as I have severely restricted access to the internet for now and much less access to the original pic, I can only point you to @AzNizPolly and his tweet to @kunori, it's floating around somewhere on twitter. I can link you the screenshot upon request but that's next to impossible at the moment. ) :

Edit: Done putting vol 5 and 9 to full nav. But yea, I will have to make a copy of AW Nav for side stories. Otherwise will make it even more messy. Tell me when you guys decide on SS titles.

Xplorer30, the full names for SS1 and SS2 respectively are "Black Twin Swords, Twin Silver Wings" and "Traces Of Prominence" repectively. Hence SSx is just an abbreviation. Since I obviously can't maintain a constant prescence here like before I'm just gonna leave it to you to decide to encode.

Thanks for V6.5 too, btw ( :

As for updates on my end, I'm still reading V11.3, and I haven't made it past page 3 of...7, I think. I have limited time at night due to lights-out and I'm tired and aching after ~80 chin-ups a day. Dx

Rest assured, I promise to get to it someday, sometime.

Kaixax555 and Superior Superboy, I'm tryna' find you. ( ;

I see that it's already there, just hidden, so I'm assuming you would just have to move it to its proper place between v4 and v6. And links for the first short story and v9 might be helpful too (v9 depends on kaixax555's progress though; I don't mean to presume anything). I'm sorry to sort of push this task on you, but you seemed to be the main one editing it and since the navigation bar's kind of complicated, I don't want to screw things up.

Sure, I usually add a volume to full nav when there's at least something translated so it's not all red taking up space. You can do normal page links without any problem even if full nav is not added, since normal link just depends on what you put in.

As for adding the side stories, are you guys going to call it just side story 1 and 2? Or changing those names to be more? The existing code has the word "volume" built in, so side story and what not might be a bit hard to add to nav link.

And no worries, I program part of that nav, and know how nasty my own code is, haha.

Best of luck to everyone who's due for service. In the meantime, I will continue to make progress at my current snail's pace.

Thanks for the help, zzhk. In those circumstances, it does make sense if he's referring to Shinjuku, so I'll put that in my TL notes and just translate it as "demonic city".

Re: Accel World

魔都 is actually a term first coined in 20th century Japanese literature, by the author Muramatsu Shōfu (村松梢風).

Quoting Wikipedia:
In 1924, his novel Mato (Demon City, 1924), he portrayed the dichotomy of Shanghai – a modern, beautiful, civilized façade, hiding a darker side populated by all manner of criminals and vice.

It's still used as a reference to Shanghai sometimes (examples: Rurōni Kenshin, Sōten no Ken, etc), but there are broader uses nowadays.

More relevant to Eternal Dreamer's query, yes, it is used as a name for Tokyo, although in some instances it refers to Shinjuku in particular (I'm not sure if that's the case in Accel World or not).

Less commonly, it has been used for other cities such as Kyoto and Nara, but those are usually terms confined to a specific work/series.

Eternal Dreamer wrote:Towards the end of page 79, there's a word written as "魔都" (the furigana pronounces it as "mato"), but I have no idea what it means despite searching through kanji dictionaries. I know 魔 means demon/evil spirit and 都 means capital/metropolis, so I'm guessing that this might be some kind of special nickname for Tokyo itself, but I'm really unsure. To put it in some context, it comes from the sentence "視線をまっすぐ動かしていくと、魔都の彼方にうっすらと横たわる富士山の壮麗な姿がある", which basically talks about how Mt. Fuji can be seen beyond whatever 魔都 is. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yea I think it's a comparison to the Demonic City too. Since the previous paragraph ended with old style electronic infrastructure reference for the city.

It's fine, seeing as it was AzNizPolly/HimekoTachibana from Neg/a/ Nebulas who asked that question. : P

Well, I'll be getting on to sleep...but one last unrelated note I guess...

Despite needing to enter the army in less than a week's time, I still have no intention of giving up V11, so for the moment I will stick to finishing it any way I can.
