借物竞走

It's a game where you are first assigned an random item (usually through drawing lots). You are then required to obtain the item through any method possible (usually from the crowd, as this game is commonly played during school sports festivals) and run towards the finish line with it in hand.

Any idea what would be a good English name for it? I've tried the chinese wiki, various chinese-english online translators and even a printed chinese dictionary, but to no avail.

P/S: In case you're wondering, Babelfish lists it as "Borrowing heel-to-toe walking race" :D

I don't really think it's a scavenger hunt, since it requires you to borrow the items or obtain them from somebody. But it's a good word if there's no other term in english.

It sounds like the event at the Sports Fest in Azumanga.

There, the translator's called it a "Scavenger Race".

Indeed, this sounds exactly like a scavenger hunt. The only difference is a scavenger hunt usually has a whole list of items and a time limit, rather than who can get a specific item the fastest.

I think scavenger hunt suits it fine. No use making such a big fuss over such a small matter ;P
