Right. Thanks Kira! haha I was searching for the right phrase to describe it other than the summer rain season...

Posted 70% of the prologue. Hopefully I'll get this out by next week.
The author makes a lot of references to other mangas/anime/LNs, so hopefully, in case the T/L notes can't explain enough, please post here and I'll add more info. Also, someone please double check if my explanation is correct. :P

Tokage no Ou (トカゲの王) is a light novel written by Hitoma Iruma(Lying Mii-kun & Broken Maa-chan, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko) and illustrated by Buriki(Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko), published under Dengeki Bunko label. Currently, the series has 4 volumes.

==Story Synopsis==

Ikagawa Tokage is a boy with a superpower. He has the the ability to change the color of his eyes whenever he closes and reopens the eyes. Kinda useless, right? Regardless, Ikagawa Tokage strives to strengthen his power in an effort to become the strongest and not have his power be nothing more than a parlor trick. With that desire in mind, he trains daily in an abandoned building in modern day Tokyo. But on one such day, he comes to what looks to be a scene of a crime and feels the culprit might still be nearby. Will he make it out of the abandoned building alive? Is there more to his power than meets the eye?

I have a superpower. I am a heretic thrust out from the world of common sense, possessing a power in both my eyes and the ability to "repaint the world" ...although, all I can do is change the color of my eyes, which is pretty useless. I hate going home because of my parents, so I decided to "train" my superpower at an old abandoned building, praying that the hidden power within my eyes would awaken. And yet, what I found was a man missing several fingers on the verge of death, a classmate showing off way too much skin, the strongest assassin alive, a man who can jump in mid-air, and a bunch of other crazy people. Is this the world I've always wanted to be a part of...?

"S-ah-oh? Read as 'sow'? Is it a fishing manga?" (T/L: In Japanese, fishing rod, 钓竿, can be read as 'sao', or 'sow')
If you want, you can just turn SAO into English.
"S-ah-oh? Read as 'saw'? So it's a manga about lumberjacks?"

There, no need for TL notes.

then why don't you use "caught sight of" instead of saw

"saw" preserves the wordplay used by the author.
