That is what I say about so many other series. I hate how the anime industry gives such a "やる気じゃない" effort at doing things like this. (Pardon my Japanese. I cannot think of a good English expression at the moment.)

Unmotivated?

And 'やる気じゃない' means 'not motivation'.

I know, but I am going more for the connotation, not the denotation of the phrase. I am thinking of it being like an "uncommitted effort" more or less.

Weren't you who said that when you go on emphasis/connotation, you should use katakanas?

I said that for emphasis, not necessarily for every connotation.

Ecchi is like macaroni and cheese. It's not particularly good for you, but it's pretty much the anime equivalent of comfort food.

That reminds me of a suite-mate in college who decided an all-cheese diet was a good idea. It was...until he had to go to the doctor for health complications for his heart and cholesterol. Ecchi can do that to you as well...except you will get away with being called a pervert, instead of earning the "purple heart attack" medal.

ecchi = comfort food.. :)

though personally i look at ecchi as 七味唐辛子.. not too little, nor too much, but just right to enhance a dish that should be good enough as is. ecchi for the sake of fanservice alone is not essentially a good thing, unless we're talking about the genre itself, say TLR Darkness? 8)

That series just... I... XD; Is that, like, an experiment to see how ecchi you can be without crossing the line? 'Cuz I thought that was what Eiken was trying to do...

Eiken is definitely up there, but I know that there is worse.

i'm actually surprised no-one has yet mentioned KissxSis, coz last time i checked it qualifies.. and also, yomeiro choice, my personal favorite for mindless laughs..

YES. Yomeiro Choice is pretty much the quintessential brainless manga series. But I found it to be relatively consistently funny, and enjoyed it rather a lot.

I'm curious to know what's worse than Eiken, though, in terms of sheer ridiculousness. I mean, I read twelve volumes of that, and the anime part (which is what I think most people are familiar with) is tame in comparison.

i don't think ANYTHING comes close really, imho, even if i mentioned all the titles i'm familiar with personally or 2nd-hand..

sora no otoshimono (more of tomoki being an idiot though..)
seikon no qwaser (fanservice..)
sekirei
b gata h kei

the rest already crossed the line though, say aki-sora?? 8)

Eiken doesn't really cross the line so much as tap-dance on top of it. XD

Some of Girls Bravo and a few others seem to be around Eiken in terms of its perversity.
