Now, I do not live where the Blues play hockey; instead, I live near where the red Chiefs play football with a Royals blue crown.

Michigan's economy really is the pits, and in my business (software) we have the wierdest thing happening . . . southeast Michigan is on the verge of becoming classified as a third world country. Instead of outsourcing to India or China and dealing with the language/culture/legal/distance issues, we have some companies coming here and setting up their sweatshops with the (relatively) cheap developers here. The going rate for a programmer here is something like 40-50% less than it is in Silicon Valley, and they aren't seen to be anywhere near as flighty as the 'primadonnas' out there.

That's where the biggest "sweatshops" are, since nobody but Compuware wants to be in Detroit itself.

To be fair, I did work for Compuware for a number of years, starting well before they decided to move downtown and extending to two years ago. Compuware sold off the part of the company I worked in (Automated Software Quality) to a British firm, Micro Focus, and the first thing they did was to move us all out to Troy.

That didn't help my commute any, since I live near Belleville, but at least I don't need to concern myself with panhandlers outside the building anymore.
