Does the series end with this season of Higurashi? I'm not familiar with the manga and haven't spoiled all of it yet.

No. They are coming out with a third season. Also, although manga does exist for Higurashi, the anime is based off of the game series. The manga is just another side product of the games.

anyhow seasons 1 and 2 so far have been about the original PC games, the Third season will be about the extra arc in the PS2 game which has the true ending to the series

But next ep was sad... I really feel sorry for Takano, as twisted as her thinking is.

You'll have to deal with it, it's going to take a while for him to wake up. Besides, the "True ending" is bittersweet, so the Kai ending is as good as it's going to get.
