Cosplay

Although I would never do it myself, I have come to find cosplay to hold a certain interest as of late. I have found that the difficulty of making oneself into the character is not only hard but an art more or less. I have also found some other things from the cosplay I have seen on the internet.

1. Most cosplay is horrible.
2. Most "good" cosplay seems to be done by Japanese girls who seem to make a living off of it.
3. It does not matter what the gender of the character is; a girl will probably be doing the cosplay either way.
4. Most of the costumes are made cheaply. Finding the right materials really helps this point!
5. Certain characters are way overdone: Shana, Yuuki Cross, C.C., Reborn cast, Bleach cast, etc.
6. Whether the cosplayer is Western or Japanese makes a huge difference usually.
7. "Professional" cosplayers from Japan seem to all express the same look despite the character's demeanor.
8. Becoming the character is often times the difference between a good cosplay and a crap-tastic one.
9. The ratio of women cosplayers to male cosplayers is higher than an all-women's college for women by women.
10. The more cosplayers per shot the more likely the feel of the shot is going to suck.
11. More often than not the right person for the right character is more than a matter of subjection.
12. Cosplayers have either no sense of shame/enjoy what they do/take pride in their work, and it shows regardless.
13. Suiseiseki cosplayers are insane for putting in the different colored contact lenses in their eyes for her heterochromia.
14. All of the wigs and/or costumes virtually look like they came from the same shop.

If you find any good cosplay (not NSFW), please feel free to post. Here are a few.

Wow, that Yuna one actually looks accurate, the other two are just blah.

#1 reminds me of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQp5l4-sfFA

Get past the first 20 seconds and its funny.

I wonder does being asian counts as cosplay since they are cannon fodders and background characters in anime.

I know what you mean, but unfortunately most Westerners either look horrible in their cosplay or just do not put the effort into making the costume. Just as an example, look below and then shield your eyes. Warning: you could go blind.

dude I've seen my share of fat guys in sailor outfit in comic-con. I am immune to this. this is why I am asking for more European anime! like Baccano....though technically they are suppose to be Caucasian they left out the "cauc" part with it.

here's a good one I've found in my love of Sheena:
Spoiler! :

look at that pose. she got the character part right and a decent costume. great posture and eyes....

basically she got the spirit of Sheena's character...and she's hot.

That is another problem: most people cannot grasp the essence of the character. I am not too familiar with Sheena, so I cannot comment appropriately, but it does not look half bad.

Might wanna fix that image.... I had to click edit to see what the hell you were talking about...

Also, for anyone that DOES want to see it, I fixed it in the quote above.

Do you believe people have to have spirit of the character or the looks of the characters?

More or less, both. *Insert Genshiken explanation here.*
