Gameplay is going to change quite a bit. With all the new units, new structures, and new abilities like crossing between different altitudes of terrain; there's no way that gameplay would be exactly the same. The GUI from what I've seen though is the same. I wonder if they increased the amount of selectable units? :?

From what we can see from the latest vids, it looks exactly like how Warcraft 3 plays except with no hero units.

I'm willing to bet that this game will be treated exactly like CS: Source by the public. Everyone will buy it, but most of the hardcore of the older series will return to their roots and in the end, only American 14-year-olds will play the newer version.

The same thing happened with Socom and Halo. For those who played the first for a decent amount of time, they didn't exactly agree with the newer versions because they were changed up too much. RTS' are a bit harder to fudge up so I'm hoping Blizzard doesn't decide to implement some new stupid shit.

Supcom expansion wrote:-The Novak Sub-Orbital Satellite is described as being an experimental unit which launches a satellite which then proceeds to slowly position itself above an enemy's base. The satellite can be controlled and commanded from the strategic zoom. Once its in position, it can rain down "pinpoint accurate destruction." The article mentions that the only way to destroy it is to destroy the control station for it at which point it will plummet out of the sky and crush anything under it.
WHAAT!?!?!?!?!

Does the UEF really need another infinite range insta win experimental unit!?

Dun Dun Dunnn!

Wii firmware update has been released and to the horror of mod chip owners... you are doomed to no updates foreva!

xD
Nintendo can't detect your modchip, but I have always said that they can detect what you do, online or not.

I do mods, I done one tonight with someone that has just updated their wii to 3.0e.
I put in the wiikey config disc and it detected on the initial screen, but as soon as you click the game it will come up with an error saying

'an error has occurred. press the eject button etc'

I first thought that my config disc was playing up after using it for months. So I burnt a fresh copy....same thing!

My guess is that Nintendo can't detect anything hardware related, but they can detect what the name of the disc is that you put in. The gamecube homebrew of the wiikey config disc would have the same name worldwide.... They have probably realized the popularity of the wiikey and included code in their firmware to detect these discs.

This console has probably now been 'red flagged' and the next time there is an update, it will probably be banned from online services.

If you run the update disc on 2.2e, its fine. Its only the 3.0e firmware that can detect the disc.

I also thought that the firmware could detect if you are playing an international game (i.e. another feature of a modchip) - but then i realized that the wiikey will trick the console into thinking that the disc is PAL anyways.

This is all new, confirmed now on 3 consoles here including mine now.

So if you have updated:
- Don't stick in the wiikey config, or any game from a different region

The more I watch Legend of Galactic Heroes, the more I want to reenact it. Unfortunately, there are no real games that allow you to do this.

Sure, there's the Homeworld series. But honestly, Homeworld is just an RTS. It doesn't let you physically conquer a universe, but it sure gets the space combat right. Aside from the lack of planet destroying lasers, it's pretty good.

Image

Then there's the Master of Orion / Galactic Civilizations series, which does the universe conquering part very well with excellent, humanlike AI, but it seriously lacks in the space combat front, with the largest battles being mostly 5 ships vs 5 ships. It does have a wonderful ship designing system, but it's quite ridiculous when they operate like lego blocks in Space.

Image

So, to fill in this space between excellent space combat and universal domination is a game coming out in 2008 called Sins of a Solar Empire.

Image

It's got it down pat, right down to the corny name. There's no turned based stuff here, so everything is done in real time. Ship combat looks to be excellent and from the previews, looks just like Legend of Galactic Heroes ripoff. And it's by Stardock, meaning there will be no copy protection and the AI will be incredible.

Image

If you like space combat, sci fi, galactic conquest, or all of them, look out for this one.

I do not understand how it will be possible to play this game online without any form of communication available between the parties...

And for the love of god... introduce a lobby system in the game! please!

Battalion Wars 2: Coming out Oct 31st.

p.s: The wii currently has limited usb keyboard functionality. Maybe it'll be upgraded in the future so we can type while in the game.... hopefully... maybe... perhaps... I doubt it...

SSBB was delayed to February, though. Some friends and I had already made plans to get together during Christmas, too.
