Filters were created in order to block the morons, and then when some lucky few cirumvent them; they become better and eventually stop everybody.

A perfect example of this is my school's filter. It is called Bess, and it is one heffer of a piece of crap to work around. The funny thing is that my school preaches "responsible technology" and "responsible freedom." Well, how can you have supposed "responsible freedom" when you block half of the internet outside of "indecent material?!" It winds up blocking more legit stuff than it helps me supposedly "safely" navigate my way around the internet. What a piece of work!

Umm, that is the sad thing. I am in college. I actually think that my high school was more lenient in terms of internet connection and site blocking.

Yeah I remember highschool internet being a bit more lenient. Our college wifi is blocking stupid stuff like Anime-Eden where I DDL manga saying it is a Peer-to-Peer site, and AnimePaper saying that it has pornographic content.

My college, being owned by the sole broadband service provider in Malaysia, has pretty respectable Internets. However, they all block all unregistered MAC addresses, and in order to register you have to sign a "surf for porn and I can sue you" agreement.

... I downloaded Mac makeup, masked my MAC address with one of the registered ones I randomly grabbed off the shelves (the registration forms are deposited in a basket on one of the office shelves... Go figure), and have been happily surfing ever since 8)

My apartment, however, gives SHITTY Internets and blocks half of the "decent" material. I can't use Sendspace, Rapidshare or Megaupload for instance, all my P2P programs are blocked, I can't use mIRC and I can't surf AnimeEden.

Wow. I hope to be able to torrent, but no Rapidshare/Sendspace/Megaupload is just horrible. You must have to Youtube or Crunchyroll your anime when not in school.
