Is OM shutting down completely?
- No. We are just removing the online reading component of the site.

I am a baka but can someone tell me what does this "online component" means?

All online readable materials such as manga...

Probably forums and reviews/databases are kept.
God!!
You need not forgive me.
For those I love,
The violence brought about by sinful men
Shall now be used once more.
If you were created to save this world,
If there is a single shred of hope left for the future of mankind,
I am very sorry, but, please begone!

as far as i read, they will keep the forums, and database, so that you can read about different manga's etc. i guess it will be a little like anime-planet, just with manga instead, but i guess we have to see and wait until they announce more

Not really. The focus will be the forums so it will be a good place to discuss manga.
Can I say something about destiny? Screw destiny! If this evil thing comes we'll fight it, and we'll keep fighting it until we whoop it. 'Cause destiny is just another word for inevitable and nothing's inevitable as long as you stand up, look it in the eye, and say 'You're evitable!'

Apparently there are a number of these aggregator sites shutting down. On one site, they seemed to be of the opinion that they need to ensure that the issue of scanlator legality does not get to court, because then there is a very real possibility they may actually be outlawed, while right now they are simply in a big gray area.

i am so tired. since i haven't been reading manga for a long time I tried to speed-read like 30 series at the same time but the clock hit and now I ended up with many, many cliffhangers. sigh guess I will attend mangafox. is cool and all but their ads seriously can be dangerous. One of them gave me a virus so I am very cautious.

Odd never had any problems with mangafox, the only reason I didn't use it more was because I prefer onemanga as it's gone then the one I use most is mangafox.

Norton Security Suite. Since I have a Comcast account, I get it for free. My machine at work uses the Symantec corporate variant of the same thing (Symantec bought Norton many years ago).

For someone with no connections or internet-smarts (at least in this department), manga scanlations are impossible to find now. Although I can always read them in Japanese, I still have a little trouble understanding. I refuse to buy translated manga because it takes forever for them to be released.
