Honestly, what little is done ~4000 characters was very interesting, and along with the description looks like would be very interesting. I would really like to read some more!

Great series (especially to me who was trained in classical but has a penchant for rock music). Too bad it will never be animated as the cost to license all the rock and roll musics played in the series would bankrupt the entire anime industry :) .

So, it means that every single song needs to be licensed to be played in an anime!? Gosh, I wonder how much it foster to Call of Duty to license all the weapon names.

Weapon makers, unlike those blood-sucking music mafia, like to showoff their products. They still demand royalties (which is why Counter Strike's guns' name differs from their real-life counterparts), but it's a lot less than, say, licensing a minute of Stairway to Heaven.

Maybe someone can translate it and for every music mentioned, someone would post a hyperlink to youtube or something ;) .

^ Well, I would love to see a wiki with youtube links all over the translation. Would be pretty special.

Is SPS a novel that gets popular? I didn't see its position on the charts.

It doesn't appear to be popular because it's a short series (1-4 iirc plus an epilogue that you have to read it to believe it :)
Spoiler! :
It has the complete opposite of a harem end (good end ones, not nice boat ones).
It ranked 16th, 11th, and 11th on このライトノベルがすごい! contest for 08, 09, and 10.

The author,杉井 光 , is an extremely versatile writer. He is capable of a large variety of styles, from grim dark to extremely silly. Yet they are all interesting in their own rights (next season's Kami-sama no Memo-chou is one of his).

The only bad thing about him is that he never finishes his series. He would start a series, write a few volumes, then start a new series that is completely different. His fans love and hate him for it, to say the least. Sayonara Piano Sonata is the only series he has finished, and iirc, he mentioned in author's note that he doesn't think he can write another book with this style again.

A list of all the musics mentioned/played in the book:

I just checked th elist. Indeed, the companies will go bankrup if they get the licence of all these songs...

Not necessary. Since a adaption can also choose artistic freedom they could use other songs (new or free songs)

Quite a number of songs were chosen for a purpose, which is also why it might not be wise to change them. This is also one reason why I cant enjoy the novel, because though descriptions are given in it, I have never heard the songs before, so I cant imagine how they really are like.

P.S. sorry for the late reply, never noticed this thread lolz

I had never read a novel on this theme music -.- but I found it quite interesting, even I think the argument is well stated and is innovative (at least for me: D)

I found this novel is quite interesting though. Someone please translate this XP

Oh, I saw the music list and since I played piano with classical music background from a kid, I do know some (not some actually, since I only know Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Liszt, Beethoven and Brahms' songs) of the song in the list though since I've played it before. I want to know why the author pick this songs xD
