As someone who when given any chance would even skip the punishment of cleaning up due to being late, it seems that the structure of my brain was fundamentally different. (Not sure about this one)

He/she was a type that would never yield way themselves, or say "thank you" when buying stuff. ("I'll have this please" would be more literal but makes less sense (at least, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it))

I just started on Kampfer volume 1 chapter 3. The first page has a line that's giving me problems. I think it's a colloquial phrase about pumpkins and cabbages (???): Larger clip of page for context: I kind-of understand it, but it makes no sense to me... any help would be appreciated.
