Watchlist isnt showing anything either, tho ive no idea wether thats normal or not without any favorites on there.
The message "no connection to baka tsuki could be made" means that the phone can't connect to and download pages from Baka-Tsuki site. As onizuka-gto suggested make sure your phone is connected to the internet. If it is connected then try opening the Baka-Tsuki site in the phones browser. If you are able to open Baka-Tsuki in the browser then I am not sure why its not working, try upgrading to the newest version as that might fix the problem.

The page for Sword Art Online 16.5 doesn't really seem to work.

But I guess it's not very important considering what the chapter is about... kinda

I'm noticing that sometimes the chapters don't stay at where I left the chapter off when I unlock the phone

Something like:

Read partly through a chapter -> have phone go to sleep or press home -> wait for some time(?) -> unlock phone to keep reading -> chapter is loaded a few paragraphs above where I actually stopped reading

I'm not really sure how long I had to wait for the chapter to become like that though

(I'm on an Xperia Arc if that matters)

16.5 had some mature contents.

Hence why it's not very important. Just inconvenient for someone like me who prefers using the app over reading it on my computer

I am aware of this problem but not sure what to do about it. If i fixed it so the chapter displayed then I would have to change the age rating for the app, I could remove the chapter so it doesn't show up in listings. So far I have left it so that people using the app can tell that the chapter exists, read the warning message and can open the web browser to read it if they want. What do other people think about this?

For anyone interested this is what Google have to say about putting stuff like this into apps.
Sexual and Suggestive Content

Pornography is not permitted in Android Market. Apps that include suggestive or sexual references must be rated "Medium maturity" or "High maturity." Apps that focus on suggestive or sexual references must be rated "High maturity."

When this happens are you rotating the phone between locking the screen and unlocking it (i.e. locking the phone in one orientation then unlocking it in the other)? Do you know if longer chapters are affected more than shorter chapters?

It'd be great if Google allows that but if it doesn't why not explain that the page isn't available for the app (possibly with reasons) and have a working link to chapter 17?

I haven't really tested it much yet but it seemed to happen a lot more often with Fate/Zero than SAO

I'd put it to sleep, unlock the phone, and it would load to a few paragraphs back.

Though that explanation does make sense

Another strange bug(?) that happened sometimes while reading SAO:

I pressed "next" to get to the next chapter -> read part of the chapter -> put the phone to sleep then unlocked -> app loads the previous chapter instead of current

Just had to register to say that I'm loving this app. Thank you so much.

I'm also saying "thank you" for this app. Without it I wouldn't be have discovered you.
I actually found Baka-Tsuki from the app (I was looking for a way to read 1/2 Prince from my phone) and now I have a wide range of light novels to read, starting with Sword Art Online...

So thanks again, and keep up the good work.

PS: any chance of an iPad version?

I don't think this app can pass Apple's screening process to get into the app store

I mean, if even that Pokemon Tower Defense thing couldn't get in...

Costs a hundred bucks to pass it.

It does not guarantee a "pass", only if it meets the Apple Gods interpretation of its own Mandate from Heaven*.

It looks like the app losing position in a chapter is due to the phone being rotated between portrait and landscape orientations. It is very difficult to keep track of the position in a chapter when this happens as some lines of text get longer to fill the screen and others don't. I will keep looking for a way to make this better, but i am not sure if I can find one.

This will be fixed in the next version.

I have no plans for making an iPad/iPod/iPhone app. If someone wants to write one then I am happy to give information about how my app works. Android apps are created in a completely different way to Apple apps and mine uses some features that are not available to developers working on Apple products. This means that it is not possible to just port the app from Android onto iPad.

It would be nice if the app had an indicator for downloaded chapters

Sorry for not giving any updates for a while. I have not had as much time to work on the app as I would like and the next update will be the largest update I have done. I hope to have it released later this week.

This would not be too hard to add, the problem is finding a place to display the information. Phone screens are small which makes it harder to add more information to the screen. I might be able to add a small icon in the bottom right of each chapter in the list if it has been downloaded.

App has now passed 1000 downloads.

I literally just created an account to make this post. First of all, thanks a lot Andy for releasing this awesome app. I've been reading light novels on my Android a lot lately, mainly using pdfs, but this makes things much more convenient.
I haven't run into any bugs yet, but I do have a few suggestions:
- I think having a way to indicate if a chapter is downloaded/cached is a must. Also, a way to select multiple chapters (or novels?) to download or mark as read/unread would be very useful as well.
- On that note, a "download all" and/or "download whole novel" button(s) may be useful, instead of having to select every chapter. Maybe even "download whole volume" or "download all completely fully translated volumes".
- A "Downloaded" page would be useful. It may also be useful to have a "Downloads" page (to show queued downloads?), something to show that something is being downloaded, or an alert when a download completes.
- Instead of having "once a chapter is open, it is marked as read", you could instead make it so if a chapter is opened, but the reader hasn't scrolled all the way to the bottom, then the novel will be marked as "reading" instead of as "read".
- On displaying information: There are a few ways to show information, such as changing text color, changing background color, and adding icons. For example, to show downloaded, you could have the word "DL" below where the translation percentage is, and for reading/read/unread, you could change the text color. I dunno, just some ideas.
- The home page: instead of a home page with buttons for "Novels", "Watch List", and "Options", I think it might be better not have a home page at all, and instead default to the "Novels" page, with the option to default to "Watch List". Then, the menu button will need to have buttons for "Options" and either "Novels" or "Watch List" depending on which page you are on. Basically, the menu button is being under-utilized right now with only "Refresh" in both "Novel" and "Chapters" pages.
- If you start reading a chapter of a novel series, should it automatically be added to your watch list? Make it an option, I guess.
- Instead of displaying "Chapters", I would personally prefer display by volumes, with the option to click to expand to show chapters. If a novel is completely finished translating, one should be able to click to show the whole volume, like you can on the wiki. For volumes that aren't completely translated, of course there would be no volume view, and you would want to show an overall percentage of translation like you currently do for chapters. Personally, I only start reading volumes that are fully translated, so a volume view is much more convenient for me (also would save space).
- A cool feature would be to display/sort by the most popular novels or something like that. View counts are on every page in the wiki (near the bottom). You could also sort for other things, like novel length, translated length, most recent update, and so on.
- Filters might work too - technically "Watch List" is a filter, so maybe filtering for other things (e.g., series with a chapter marked as "reading") could work.
- Teasers?
- Setting default language?
- How/where are the cached chapters/images kept? It may be useful to let users know about it, and give users a method to download chapters on their computer then put it on their phone without needing to use the app.

Sorry for the sudden deluge of stuff. To tell the truth, I just downloaded the app today, so some of the above may already be implemented and I just haven't noticed it yet. These suggestions are just a selfish request on my part based on how I think I would like to use this app. If I run into any bugs or think of anything else to add, I'll be sure to tell you. Once again, thanks ago for the awesome app!
