I see very little wrong with holding back...
Lawl.
But yeah, I know that gets annoying. Hence, DBZ was so boring.
I've read a few manga's and watched a few animes where that happened a lot up to a certain point where the MC was utterly and completely crushed.

Its a never-ending cycle where the author seems to put ALL important characters with infinite power, unwilling to show any signs of weakness among them. Even when the fight ends, or one side loses, they are as if they never put in their best effort. Do it once or twice, and it might seem cool. Repeat it for like 5~8 volumes... You gotta be wondering, "Has he done enough like that yet?"
That sounds really childish/immature...
Please don't mind my bad english since I'm german.

Things tend to happen for a reason.

I would love to agree... but until that "I haven't used my full power!" stunt ends somehow, there is no way I can agree with you... Seriously, I thought it would be a great novel, but the path it is heading down is more of that of an adult novel than a story based novel. In fact, he might as well just sleep with his harem already. Hes acting like a gentleman, when hes just a pervert, toying with them.
The whole "LOL I'M JUST HOLDING BACK" trend continues up to the most recent volumes? Oh man...I stopped reading this at Volume 4 when it was just getting too much for me to bear. I like strong heroes and all, but that trend of "LOL I'M JUST HOLDING BACK MY POWER HAW HAW" has got to seriously stop. Does the "LOL I ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW I'M JUST PLAYING DUMB" trend also continue? Because that one was also completely annoying - it left no room for surprising plot developments because, hoo hah, our glorious invincible hero already knew all along.

I had a favorable impression for this series after having read the initial volumes, but eventually it just got too exasperating for me. Knowing that the whole hidden shounen power levels trend continue is depressing enough, but that it just escalates the eroticism with little reasoning to it is a complete let-down.

Well, even if "I'M JUST HOLDING BACK" part gets annoying ecchiness easily compensates it, IMHO :)

I don't know Japanese, but even I still can understand something from pictures.

Volume 9:
Spoiler! :
According picture on page 363 in novel I can definitely say that everybody will be reunited safely.
My sixth sense tells me that there is no way that 12 episode anime will cover already 9 released volumes. Either they planning to do 24 episodes suddenly, or they planning to do second season or we will wait for something till the end of twilight like we are waiting for To Aru Majutsu no Index...

The Chinese version is currently up to volume 8. The holding back is still there, then the "i know what you know, im playing dumb" is not really there. More like damsel in distress, hero heads out, harem follows style in recent volumes.

But yes, the eroticism escalates with idiotic logic. Totally ruins the story. Damn, I am jealous of you. I should have stopped at volume 4, or earlier! Personally, this is quite a waste of my/our time.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with holding back. In fact, we believe it was a great move... Until it happens EVERY VOLUME. Its like every episode of the anime, you see them holding back while they pretend that they are putting in effort.

Except that this series tries to portray the lead as a gentleman; only he's really not. Plus, the escalation is just...in a word, tasteless. It started out as tidbits, and it was reasonable at the time. Then it continued getting more and more shameless, and now it doesn't even make sense anymore. Whatever plot occurs is just either an excuse for any of the author's favorite characters to go "LOL I'M REALLY STRONGER THAN THIS I'M JUST TESTING YOU", or for the ladies to suddenly get groped, molested, and sexualized.

It's cheap. It cheapens whatever development is supposed to be happening, dramatic, tense or otherwise.

I see. I'm glad I stopped early, then! I got that nagging feeling too once I just about finished the whole ranking exam, and it was nothing but the author completely putting Akatsuki on a pedestal, going on and on about just how awesome and above everyone else he was. I couldn't read that volume with a straight face at all, and I had to try really hard to stop rolling my eyes. And then Volume 4 just made me stop, 'cause I couldn't take it any longer.

I know exactly how you feel... I just had to have hopes that it could go back to as good as it first started out in volume 1 or so... *Sigh* Another good story gone to waste...

Not really trying to bring anyone down with regards to checking out Hagure Yuusha, in case my posts get misconstrued as hostile. If you want to read it, more power to you! Not everyone has to have the same tastes, after all.

Well, at least now you know! Though that's barely any reassurance...I feel your pain, honestly.

At least the author has an ongoing plot to the story, lol. From what I've read of summary posts for each volume, they're all linked together, rather than each volume just being it's own, self contained story.

At least we will be able to know about the beginning volumes (the fun part) in detail if what everyone says about the later chapters being true.

Ok, so let's make this at least a teaser project. This is the first part of the prologue.
Spoiler! :
Prologue
“Uwaaa! Tha- that is dangerous! Hey, are you trying to kill me?!”
Even though he knew very well it is futile, Ousawa Akatsuki couldn’t stop screaming. Since he run at full speed his shout caused a Doppler effect. It was daybreak the sky in the east just started to turn white. Akatsuki was running in the depths of a dense forest. He was carrying a bag about the size of a sandbag on his back while strongly kicking the ground as he stride though. Half step behind him arrows struck the ground one right after the other. Numerous footsteps chased him like they were trying to surround him. Akatsuki turned around and confirmed his followers. What he saw was blue and white colors completely unfit to the forest. It was aprons and servants clothes. His chasers were maids. Furthermore there were forty-four of them. In today’s recession it is difficult to see this many maids even in the streets of Akihabara. His chasers were beautiful girls and women. Akatsuki was thinking. It would be great if we were in the summer beach.
“But it is not summer and this is not even the beach!”
He straightened up himself and pulled back his mind from the illusions to the reality. Actually there was a fundamental problem apart from the season and the place. In the first place this is not Akihabara; not even Earth. This is another world.
The earth Ousawa Akatsuki is standing belongs to a different world called Areizard. That is why every maid carried a weapon of some kind. Like swords, spears and bows. To understand this situation it is necessary to know something about Akatsuki.
Five years ago. Akatsuki was summoned to this world called Areizard. In this world where swords and magic were used and a hero and the demon king existed there was a full scale war against the army of demons led by Garius the demon king. That’s right. There was already a hero in this world. Therefore this is not a story where the young boy came from another world become a hero. On the contrary the summoned Akatsuki had no powers whatsoever. He was an ordinary boy. He was only a bystander and had nothing to do about the future of this world. His luck was that after the summoning he woke up in the great magic nation Sherfiido. He was welcomed by the hero Leon, the queen Risty and others like the fighter Zeks and the mage Ruudye. Not only that, but they searched old books to help him return to his world. In the vast forest near Sherfiido. There is a <gate to another world> in the deepest part of the northern side of the forest. Then just as Akatsuki was about to return to his world ---- a tragedy occurred. The army, led by demon king Garius raided Erdia the royal city of Sherfiido. And in that fight the hero Leon lost his life. Protecting Akatsuki from the demon king’s blade.
Leon’s death caused despair in the world. This further deepened when Erdia fell. It was natural that the people held Akatsuki responsible. Risty was the only one who could protect Akatsuki, but she couldn’t accept Leon, her lover’s death. She also blamed Akatsuki. She cursed him--- If only you hadn’t existed! Zeks and Ruudye didn’t cover him either and after a while Akatsuki disappeared. Everyone thought that he fled and called him a coward. But he didn’t flee.
Risking his life he went alone to the Divine World, where gods dwelled and trained as hard as he could. In the end he managed to learn a body control technique called Renkan Keikikou which allowed him to freely make chi in the body and returned to the battlefield. Then in the Erdia’s liberation war he saved Risty, Zeks and Ruudye when they got into a tight spot. Akatsuki suddenly become a hero but there were still quite a few who blamed Akatsuki for Leon’s death. It was especially infuriating for some Leon supporting people to see Akatsuki and Ritsy solving their ill feelings and fighting together. They started to call him cynically a rogue hero.
But Akatsuki quietly accepted his notorious name. Not only that but he behaved bohemian. Like he was saying I’m neither a champion nor a hero. Leon is the hero of Areizard. Akatsuki still felt that way. He is fine being a rogue hero. That is why on his way to defeat the demon king if he found a noble oppressing their peers he crushed him without question. If he caught a rumor about a beautiful girl or women he not only flirted but also molested them. Finally after a numerous adventure and hardships Akatsuki defeated demon lord Garius.
