Dead dog?

There's a pretty large and obvious discrepancy in the "Wandering Spirits" story I noticed. When Sakanaka is initially describing the situation to Haruhi et al, she says that Higuchi's dog had fallen sick and died:

“This morning, I noticed that she didn’t bring one of her dogs out for a walk. When I asked her, she told me that he had died of illness last night. She didn’t go into the details, but from what I heard, it seems that he was sent to a vet."

However, later Haruhi says this about this about the dogs:

“Even the vets are baffled. Physically, he’s perfectly fine, but it seems that he’s too unmotivated to do anything. The same goes with Higuchi-san’s Michael! They won’t even budge to eat!”

And of course for the rest of the chapter Higuchi's dog is alive.

So, is this a translation error? Or did Nagaru-san feel bad about killing off a dog and changed his mind midway through?

Right. But later on when Koizumi asks her, Sakanaka says only Michael and Rousseau had been sick.

“There’s another thing I would like to ask.” Koizumi continued. “Are Michael and Rousseau the only dogs who are infected with this particular illness? You seem to know many friends who have dogs in this neighborhood.”

“I haven’t asked anyone else, but it was only when Michael fell ill that the rumors spread. If other dogs had fallen ill too, I’m sure that I would have heard about it somehow.”

It's official. HolyCow sucks at translating.

In my defense, the only thing I can say is that I misread 其中一只狗昨天病了 as 其中一只狗昨天病死了. My bad, my bad.
