Hey Alpaca, I had a question regarding the skills that were unlocked in Shield Hero. Whenever the MC gains a new ability the general format is something like this:

Requirement for Mush Shield had been liberated.
Mush Shield
True power unliberated …… Equipment bonus: Plant Identification 1

I was wondering, wouldn't it make more sense to replace "unliberated" with "unlocked" or some other synonym? Since in the first line it says it's liberated but in the next it's saying the complete opposite by making it un-liberated. Yo. I've been staring at a certain line in chapter 10 that doesn't seem to make sense and I think it just needs to be re-translated, rather than edited.

And here is the current form of that line translated that isn't too much different from what it originally translated as: That bitch. If she had never intended to stay with me, then why did this dumb system announcement pop up whenever she killed stuff too?

From what I can tell, when he was with Mein, he didn't receive any notification of getting EXP when she killed stuff. So when he saw that when Raph killed something, he got angry and remembered that nothing like that happened when Mein was killing stuff.

Here's what the manga scanlation by Galactica used for this part: That woman never had any intention of being my comrade, nor had she planned to tell me about the system.

I think that sealing and unsealing of shields is an improvement over what you had, and it will certainly cause less confusion. You could also use locked and unlocked, but it is up to your preference, I suppose. If more translators join the project then you can debate about it then. For now that should work fine. Well, from what I understood, the Asian Alliances actions weren't exactly official, but that's not the problem. And Japan sent their strategy-class magician there to pressure the Alliance. The problem (for the rest of the world) is the explosion itself, it obliterated the Alliance's fleet and a big base in one blast and killed its official strategy-class magician at the same time. The USNA figured it was caused by direct matter-to-energy conversion, and that is troubling. This happens when antimatter meets matter, and even 1 gram of antimatter is hard to make, but that was a 1kg explosion, so even if the antimatter mass is added to the matter mass, it's a lot of antimatter. But antimatter was not used here, it was magic. Transporting antimatter is a bit of a hazard, considering this world is 100% matter, and a transporter can be intercepted, magic can't. If Japan wanted, they could make a crater out of New York or Washington and the USNA would have no idea until it happened. So in order to better understand this explosion and how it reacts, they reactivated that 30km black hole sandwich maker, and it's hinted that it won't go that well for them. Also, the fact that Material Burst can destroy a war fleet in the blink of an eye means the rules of war have changed, no longer can the armies fight it on like in the old days, now magicians are the center pieces and maybe some assassins mixed in there. Finding out who the hell can nuke an army like that at his will is also important and it drives the story forward, let's not forget we are talking about high school, international politics are a bit over that. That's about it as far as I can tell, I hope I answered your questions and not angered Dreyakis in the process. I translate according to chronological order, so in terms of sheer knowledge of the material, of course I know what is coming up way ahead of time. (*cough* Volume 7 Chapter 12 *cough*) Finally, generally there are no overarching themes or references lost in translation as the text does a good job making multiple references. If you upload just the text in other language then chrome can translate it so if you have the text then upload it please

I am unsure whether I understand the last sentence but if you mean that I should upload the book unto my computer and use a program to do the bulk of the translation, aside from the fact that I believe uploading copyrighted material is illegal, I do not have the technological capacity to do that, so I'm afraid that my process will remain read phrase, doublecheck words I'm unsure of, translate into english and then type my rough translation(and it is rough, the complexity of the task really eats away at my punctuation skills and for speed's sake I often can't spend the time to get a sentence just right, so if you want to help please edit). The process is slow but, with practice I will get faster. -Sashiko

Don't worry too much about punctuation. We can cover that for you based on the context of the text, as long as we can tell where the sentences start and end. I try to avoid changing the actual words as much as possible. You should also ignore the person telling you to have the browser translate it -- pretty sure BT staff does not like that just off the legal issues alone. Good job with chapter 3 of Presidential election and the queen. I didn't expect that development, but I like where it's heading. And I agree with the way you do it, not using computer-aided translation. It certainly is a bit slower, but results are something nobody using software assist - even those professional programs out there - can match. I just want to let you know, Dreyakis, I highly enjoy your translation. I've spent quite a bit of time as an editor for various fan translation groups (never for light novels though) and even those projects could cause a man's brain to explode. Translation is hard work and you are doing the best job I have seen on Baka-Tsuki. It is a pleasure to read your translated text, doubly so because the novels themselves are excellent. The novels have an addictive neutrality to them, and I am very happy that you are translating them for an entirely new section of the world to enjoy. ~BakaGrappler

First time commenting on bakaupdates, so not sure if this is the correct way, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for your work! I absolutely love this series. I've reread it 5x now eagerly waiting for my next hit of ecstasy! I actually created a log in just to voice my utmost gratitude to you and all the hard workers that work on the Mahouka series! I truly hope this series becomes an anime, but at the same time I know it'll never be as glorious as the LN! You work so quickly and your translations are top notch! Hello I am new to Baka-Tsuki and I have a couple questions that you can help me with. (Sorry if this is in the wrong place to put it, but I am new and I don't know anywhere else to put it.)

I want to help with translating novels on this wiki, but at the registration page of a project it just shows the chapters and the translators who translated it and I can't find anything that could help me. And if I do register to translate a chapter where can I find or get a raw version of the chapter to translate or do they provide you with one. Currently now I am in my third year of Japanese at a highschool standard and I am wondering if this enough to actually start translating chapters. I can understand Japanese sentence structure/grammar, hiragana, katakana like only 20 kanjis. Thank you in advance for answering. :) - TheWierdSaying

If you are interested in joining the project, go ahead and check in on the Feedback thread that is linked on the main Mahouka page. The Registration link is only to let the translators know who is doing what. Unfortunately, you will have to hunt down a copy of the RAWs yourself, as we don't have a handy supply cache anywhere (not that I know of). Dreyakis, out of curiosity, how do you manage to crank through these translations so quickly? I'm curious how you get so much done so quickly; never mind the quality which I have absolutely no complaints about. Generally speaking, my productivity is around 10 pages per day since I'm translating Chinese to English, with appropriate increases in output on my days off (Wednesdays and Saturdays). It's not hard to make an estimate after that. I'm out in California, so the time stamp on B-T is two hours ahead of local time.
