It would be useful to me to have Project Manager status so I can update the main page and set some guidelines and standards. As it stands now, the style of the 4th volume completely changes at chapter 5, and I would like to eliminate things of that nature. I also think it would be easier to recruit and organize others to work on the project with that status. But, if I don't meet the requirements, then I don't meet the requirements. Volume 1 Chapter 1 is mostly done. There are some lines which I did not try to edit as they were... Uh, quite ''ambiguous''. If and when you have some free time please check them against the RAWs. Also, some of the terms in Jn's translation are different from the ones in your translation, e.g.: <Decorteo Brigieaux> and <Decolletè Oblique>. Should I modify them to match yours or should I let them be?

I went through Vol 4, chapter 2, part 1 in a pretty major way. It's not perfect, far from it. There are still parts that I left with note (needs better phrasing) where I could not come up with better syntax due to either not understanding what is being said, or in one case, it was such a japanese thing that I was weary of re-writing it. I did this edit offline, since the wiki timed out on me a couple of times when I tried doing it online. Therefore, the entire part 1 was done in one edit. I have a copy of the original unedited version, if you prefer the original translation, I can replace piecemeal what ever parts you want. You can fix grammar, change vocabulary as long as the meaning is not really different, or changing the sentence's structure. But please just don't erase too much words or simplify a sentence too much. Hi, just a random reader here.
Regarding 'shenjingbing' it is used with the meaning of saying someone else is stupid yes, but the 3 words it self directly translates to "crazy(shenjing) illness/disease(bing)"
Translating it to either 'stupid' or 'crazy' would work.

Maybe I should have been more clearer, the sentence ought to be "we'll just leave it at that then" (i.e. If the school discovers the SOS Brigade website and intervenes, then Haruhi would just not use the website and move on to other "important" tasks. ) I've altered the sentence now.

I'm the person who's been translating Ch. 5, and I was emphatically not aware that you'd been granted some sort of carte blanche to handle the entire translation of volume 1 for yourself -- in fact, I quite politely asked TLG (who I view as the de facto project coordinator) whether it was all right for me to grab ch. 5 and start translating it, and he replied in the affirmative. If you'd wanted to discuss the translation with me, you might have done so through the Talk page for ch. 5, which I'd been regularly updating. But you didn't. You just posted a massive edit.

If anything, it wouldn't be unreasonable for me to view your sudden and massive changes to ch. 5 as interference in the work that I'd been doing -- but I'm not going to be that way.

If you want volume 1 to yourself, and nobody else has any objections to this, it's fine by me. I'd been doing this for fun, and I don't see a pissing match with you over who's in charge of a chapter as "fun".

I'll just move over to the editor group, then -- and then I can second-guess you. How's that?

Hey, you're not the only one who's upset about his "work" being trampled over, you know. As I said, I was under the impression that TLG has given me permission to do the whole of chapter 1. If you were me who was made that promise, I'm sure you would understand most. I must have been mistaken and I apologize for that assumption. I also apologize for not contacting you earlier due to my ignorance of the "history" function to find out who did what in the beginning.

Let us bury the hatchet and leave this behind us and work together next time.

BTW, as for the choice above, if you point a gun at my head, then I'd say 1. While 2 is way too extreme, I'm for finding a balance. It's not like I'm ridiculously far behind like some fansub groups doing some anime.

The "Classics Club Series" is actually an unofficial name, since the author never really gave the series a proper umbrella name covering all the books under this series, which are unnumbered as well, adding to the confusion.

I simply reckoned that if the anime adaptation is going to be called Hyouka (and seeing Kyo-Ani's cast list containing characters for Vol 2 and beyond, you can be sure they won't just stop at Vol 1), then it would be natural that most foreign readers will be searching the title "Hyouka" rather than "Classics Club Series". Let's the leave the series title as it is, perhaps we could just add a subtitle inside brackets: Hyouka (AKA Classics Club Series).

The brackets around GROUP were probably meant to emulate the Japanese-style quotation marks 『』 used in the novels, but they aren't really necessary. The Japanese like to put things in quotation marks to distinguish them in the same way capitalizing the word is sometimes used in English (e.g. Esper names like Meltdowner and AIM Stalker are put in quotes in the novels.) I used to puts things in quotes excessively in my translations because I was copying the Japanese usage, but I stopped recently.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what to tell you. Due to the way I learned Japanese, # of kanji known means nothing to me. I couldn't tell you how many I know or how many you need to know for a LN. You say you have been studying Japanese for several months, so my guess is you are not ready. It took me several years to be proficient enough to read a LN comfortably. Still, the only way to know for sure is to get one and try reading it, so I would suggest starting with one and seeing how well you do. Hello Js06. I have noticed that the current translations of Index Volumes 9 & 10 have the keywords of the arc literally translated instead of the part that is spoken. i.e. The base kanji is translated instead of the kana at the top. e.g. 追跡封じ is translated as 'tracking sealer' but is spoken as Route Disturb. This also goes for Shorthand and Croce di Pietro. I will go and fix these in my own time.
It is easy to find these literally translated terms as they have 'apostrophes' around them.

In the Volume 10 translation, in certain situations the word 'observatory' has apostrophes around it as well. Also, Index II episode 12 has the title 天文台, translated as 'astronomical observatory' but spoken as Belvedere. If you happen to have a copy, can you tell me if the word Belvedere is used in Volume 10 anywhere instead of observatory? It could explain why the word observatory has apostrophes around it. Hello again js06. I was looking at the earlier Index Volumes (1-13,SS1) and I have found that they are not up to scratch to what one would expect of a light novel translation (obviously not including your translations). A lot of the terms have been translated literally like in my above topic. There is little consistency in the terms used. Worst of all there are plenty of sentences throughout the volumes which are entirely capitalised. I am planning on starting from Volume 1 and try and fix things (including incorrect terminology and capitalised sentences) sometime later in the year. However, I do not actually have a physical copy of the earlier volumes so I have to rely on other methods of checking the original japanese (Manga Raws, Anime and Kanji on the Index Wikia).

I have found that the '''Toaru Majutsu no Index no Subete Glossary''' is a good reference for translation. However, aside from the already translated and modified version on the wiki, I dont have access to the original scans so I can double check the translations and see which parts have been modified or reinterpreted by the wiki. '''Do you happen to have a link to these scans?''' (There was a statement on the page that you were the one who translated it.)

Lastly, I will inevitably run into problems when fixing up the translations and will require a more experienced translator with an actual copy to answer some more volume-specific questions (like the Belvedere issue above). I've seen San Mercado's Japanese rendition translated as "Pure Metropolis". 大市 can mean either "big city" (metrópolis) or "big market". Given that 1)it's a brand and 2)"mercado" means "market", I'd say it should be translated as something like "big market", "central market", or even "supermarket". Translated into English from current Spanish it means "Saint Market", but in ancient Spanish "San Mercado" or "Santo Mercado" was closer in meaning to "Sacred Market". My dictionary gives me 清らか as "clean, pure, chaste". Looking at English synonyms, personally I'd translate 清らか大市 as "virtuous market", "unblemished mart" or something of the like.--~~

First of all js06, I just wanted to say thanks for going through all the work in translating the Toaru series (and many others) for us railgun/index fans who aren't very proficient in japanese. Now, as for the topic.... Myself and a few people I know have gotten into a little debate about how strong Othiinus really is. Some think her power to add filters is limited to the earth alone, while others think that she can effect the whole universe. To get to the point, I was a bit curious as to exactly what word was used to when the novel said that the world had ended, an exact example being this snippet from Othinus, ('''"Othinus shrugged. “Listen. The world has ended. It does not matter how. It is gone.'''")....I know that Japanese can be kind of wonkey and words can have multiple meanings, for instance, "hoshi" can mean both star and planet. So, throughout the novel what Kanji was used to refer to "the world" being destroyed, and in your opinion, what meaning did that kanji have in the context of the novel (basically, was it referring to "earth" or the "universe" when Othinus destroyed and recreated the world). Thanks in advance, and sorry for such an odd question.

In 4A chapter 11 when #8 is running towards Odor the text says that "they" are three meters apart then after a bit says they are now twenty meters apart and it's worded to sound like that is closer than the previous distance. Was the three meters supposed to be a different number or was "they" referring to a different group?

Also 4B chapter 18 describes the tree trunk as three meters wide at the end of the chapter and the following mentions of its size use thirty meters.

No pictures to my knowledge except the front cover. Note that I am translating based on a chinese translation, even though i do have the original japanese version, i rarely hop over to double check as the chinese translation process is already talking way too much time, that i almost dont want to spare.

That's great! When we are finished is there any of the others you want to do? Ryuou had reaffirmed he would do the Danshous, but that's still very open. I think all the intro chapters are interesting.
There is a map at the end of the Senki books, so I will try to upload it. There are no other art pictures but artists had been drawing story parts. Maybe something can be found in the future.

During my spare time, I used to read Light Novels (LN) from Baka-Tsuki (BT) and my Japanese friend, who is in the same universities. I do enjoy reading both original and English-translated LN.

Then, he said to me: 'Why not translating them into your Own Language (Malay)?" And here I am, quite to afraid to suggest it beforehand.

While I'd say format unification is a generally a good thing, I don't think it's an urgent item. To implement this as a rule/guideline, it should probably be raised for discussion in the forums. And then after discussion (aka the thread sits there for a week or two without anyone posting), it could be accepted as a new rule/guideline. I did the same for DanMachi, StB, Mahouka, and Durarara!!. Tate and Seraph aren't locked as of now, so I left those as is. Index was already editable through Template:Toaru:Series_Overview. For the projects not in abandoned on the sidebar, they will be moved out of the project categories and into the sidebar once all the translations on the pages are deleted, which should be no later than 2 months before the first English publication. In Tate's case I don't think there's yet a consensus on what to do, so I can't say what will happen. Excuse me, I think there is some uploading mistakes with the light novel "Clockwork Planet". I have been an avid follower of this light novel translation and you should be aware that what has been recently uploaded is not clockwork planet. First off the translator of this light novel has not uploaded translations for volume 3 yet on his website http://hellping.org/. However, the recent translations are supposedly from the third volume. Second, the style is completely different from the "Clockwork Planet" novel (even when accounting for a different translator). The supposed chapters are much to short for "Clockwork Planet" and after the first chapter none of the main characters are even mentioned. I am glad that you are adding "Clockwork Planet". That said, I believe everyone wants the correct version up. Again, you can find the translated version of "Clockwork Planet at http://hellping.org/. There should be two complete volumes there. I hope this helps.

== Permission to view web novel postings on Forum, Major concerns. ==

My name is john34404 on both parts of the site and I want access to the web novels section on the forums. This is due to me adding evil god average, xin Ni (still not sure if its a web novel or light novel), and Dragon life to the listings.

With the new rulings on Web Novels I will need to ask additional permissions from not only the translators, but also to the baka-staff. This is due to the current translation projects currently being done usually will be dropped (Whole sites even) if the site receives no hits for the project.

I understand that it would be more convenient for baka-tsuki to host the projects, especially for the app, but a small revision to where currently translating projects have a wait/separation time until the text version is needed for the site would be better for baka-tsuki due to the willingness of access from translators.

It will be a lot easier getting permission for completed sections (or whole works) than it would be for the most current text of a currently translating work.

If the translators get no gain/feedback from this site they will just not give this site permissions to works and this site will likely become very small or unused. When making the page, just follow the general format of other projects. It came to my knowledge that yen press has licensed the Psycome series due to which it has been taken down from baka-tsuki.

I am a really big fan of Psycho Love Comedy series and have read all the three volumes and was waiting a long time to read volume 4 which you took almost a year to update on the app and site and was really eager to read it when i got time i even downloaded it and saved it so i could read it with peace and savoir all the contents.

For the first time i felt a strong despair and a strong hate towards Yen Press as i lost all means to get to read my favorite series.

Even in my job interview i told them that i read books and light novel and this is the one i am fond of and also told them the review and summary of the series enthusiastically.

And yen press will be releasing the series in Feb/March of 2016, which is a long time.

As my last hope i thought of asking you if by any chance you could provide me with pdf, epub or even html version of the forth volume.
So i could finally continue on with the series. I already know full well that your hands are tied too. But please consider my request.
And i promise i won't distribute it to anyone or post it on any site or even share it with any of my friends or peers(not that they have any interest in light novels).

*Yes, you should translate the wiki project page to German and post that [[Mushoku Tensei (German)|link]] above (where you currently posted the prologue), and then move the prologue to a page named like [[Mushoku Tensei (German):Volume 01 Prologue]] (you could translate "Volume" and "Prologue", or just leave them as English in the page name). An archive/mirror would have been a lot more important when we weren't sure if we would be able to stay online because of server host issues; that was at the beginning of the year, which may be part of the reason you received requests. Hey there, your app Baka-Tsuki Ex is giving problem when attempted to read any of the novels. The error says Bitmap empty and then gives another error which is pretty long.

This error is happening with other people as well because in the app store people have written that they too get the same error. I have tried redownloading the app but it didn't work, I tried deleting and downloading the novel cache but it doesn't do anything so I wanted to report this to you people. I hope it gets fixed soon.
