About Us

Baka-Tsuki (BT) is a fan translation community that hosts translations for light novels in the Wiki format. Founded in 2006 by Thelastguardian (初代 - 2006-2016), Baka-Tsuki has since expanded to become the largest fan-based English light novel agglomerate on the Internet. Apart from physically hosting 252 projects in 29 different languages, Baka-Tsuki aims to promote the popularity of light novels and serve as a hub to connect readers with fan translations of East Asian light novels on the Internet. Baka-Tsuki is not a translation group. Independent translators come to Baka-Tsuki and voluntarily upload their translations to the Wiki for public sharing. Regarding the Deletion of Lots and lots of projects (December 18, 2015) Alright guys, this one's a doozy: Baka-Tsuki just got hit by a DMCA from Kadokawa. And this time, it's crippling, Series affected by this are (all languages): DAL, Itsuten, Haganai, DYD, Index, LH, Mondaiji. Nobuna, Arisu, Nareru SE, Kuusen, Sakurasou, Shana, Slayers, Chaika, Ero-manga, Spice & Wolf, Baccano, Black Bullet, Accel World, Index, Oreimo and Papakiki Also, a note from Big Boss (tlg): "Hey guys, Looks like this time it's Kadokawa's turn to send DMCA, and it's a doozy. There are so many series listed that I think the jig is pretty much up. The server will need to be move from US if B-T wants to survive. If this is the case I don't think I can continue to pay for the server anymore (as outright copyright infringement conflicts with my job). We will need to find a person to take over the operation. The server requirement shouldn't be that expensive. $20/month would suffice, I believe. tlg" This message reached us at 0104 GMT on December 18, 2015 As of 0300 GMT, December 18, 2015, offending pages were deleted. Currently, the BT council is looking for ways to salvage the situation. I can assure you that furious discussion is currently underway. Emails should be working again (September 21, 2015) Emails and the associated features (verification, password resets, notifications) should be working again on both the wiki and the forums. Emails not working at the moment (September 19, 2015) There is currently a problem that prevents emails from working on both the wiki and the forums. Unfortunately, this means account features that use emails as well as general notifications are not functioning. Hopefully it can be fixed soon, but it requires getting in touch with the absent big boss, so it will depend on how soon he can be reached. In short, the MTL policy has been clarified that MTL should not be added to the wiki without prior approval, and this applies to external links as well; in addition, the "Preview" tag and template will be retired and replaced with an "MTL" tag and template. For WNs, they will be moved to a new category, and only projects from translators wishing to host text will be permitted in the future. Scheduled maintenance coming in the next three days (June 4-6) Site maintenance will be occurring over the next three days (June 4-6), starting at 12:00 UTC on each day and lasting a few hours. I have watched Baka-Tsuki for nine years. I've seen it grown from a single website for one Light Novel to dozens. maybe hundreds of light novel fan sites and blogs. We have come a long way and we would not be here without you. Our readers, our contributors, our translators and our critics. It was something worth fighting for, i know our fallen brethren, virtual and in real life, who are't with us today will be smiling on us. The amended portion of the rule reads as follows: External Fan Translation groups engaging in commercial activity cannot be affiliated with Baka-Tsuki (hosted/linked). External Fan Translation groups with licensed projects on their website cannot be affiliated with Baka-Tsuki (hosted/linked).
