Track 7: The Imperial Capital of Small Shimaron[edit]

-- Saralegui's room --

Saralegui: I've been thinking about this for a while, how should I kill you? Should I just pour boiling water on you?

Adalbert: Don't say something so cruel. It's not like he's a cockroach, something like that won't kill him, right Maxine? [1]

Maxine: Ughh.....

Saralegui : Since you only had to "deal" with some children, what's the meaning of you returning empty-handed? Isn't that kind of pathetic for an adult? You have some nerve showing your face before me(informal)... before me (formal).[2]

Maxine: But, in this case...

Saralegui: No buts....

Maxine: However...

Saralegui: Oh, are you talking back at me? Whenever I say something you keep replying " But your Majesty", "But your Majesty". If a bride says that to her mother-in-law she will end up hating her. When you talk to your superiors, you should obediently say "Yes, yes". [3]

Adalbert: I don't think he could be a bride.... First of all, men wouldn't like him, I mean with that hair...

Saralegui: Yes, well... that's not what I was trying to say. It was a figure of speech.

Adalbert: Oh...? You certainly know how to get ahead in life. "Yes, mother. Yes, mother. Everything that mother says is right" then the mother will smile and say "Well, what a cute bride you are", and end up liking her.

Saralegui: Ehh?

Adalbert: But when it comes to guys like this, if he does that, then you won't find out what happened when you were not looking..... hey, what are you smiling about?

Saralegui: Nothing. I just thought you did a good job pretending to be cute bride... Haha....

Adalbert: Who... Who cares about that?! Give me a break. Soldiers don't know how to get ahead in life. If they knew how to do that, they would seize the country and run it.

Saralegui: Even though you're using a euphemism, that's still offensive, Adalbert. And in the first place, what's the meaning of you coming here?

Adalbert: What I heard a while back about obtaining the poison, that was the mission you gave this guy, right? Rather than a guard, I was just watching the situation, since that didn't have to do with me.

Maxine: Were you not protecting me?

Adalbert: You can think about it either way, I don't mind. As for me, I felt like I was watching your every move from behind, with sweaty palms, as if you were a child out "on his first task". [4]

Maxine: Don't make fun of me! I'm not a kid!

Adalbert: Don't make such a fuss. It was just a metaphor. I mean, since I've known you from the time you were a new recruit, I'm not a complete stranger. Nevertheless, to have this bearded guy also be referred to as "daddy" or something would be troublesome.

Saralegui: So in the end, why was His Majesty the Maou in the Gilbit Mansion?

Adalbert: Well, I don't know. But it looked like he was there by accident. I couldn't believe that the Maou was in the land of humans without bringing his friends along.

Saralegui: He had no escorts? This Maou is strong, huh?

Adalbert: There was only one person with him who he seemed to rely on. But no matter how you looked at him, he was not a fighter. It was a kid who was about his age. It seemed like the two of them were alone on a trip.

Saralegui: So, is it true that two kids traveling together by boat get a 50% discount? Maybe that's why...

Adalbert: They are not that young.... They were at least over the age of twelve. But in any case, Shin Makoku's finances are not that tight. Haven't you heard about the new reconstruction organization they have set up? [5]

Saralegui: Then, why...?

Adalbert: Who knows? But, I'm sure there's a reason behind it. If he didn't have a large group of guards with him, is because he purposely chose to do that.

Saralgeui: Hmmm....

Adalbert: In any case, it wasn't Maxine's fault. Since we came across some unexpected rare guests and then the Big Shimaron soldiers marched in, there was no other choice but to retreat.

Saralegui: Is that so.... ?

Adalbert: I wonder if you might be interested in knowing what we found out when we were over there....

Saralegui: About what? Well, it's fine.... But if I would have known what would happen, I would have liked to come along. I wanted to meet His Majesty the Maou.

Adalbert: You would have been frightened.

Saralegui: You're lying. I heard he was a lovely soukoku young man about my age. Besides, he was at the beach looking like a poor and stupid kid.

Adalbert: Where did you hear about that....? Well... you're right about his appearance. But you've never seen his majutsu, right? It was comparable to that of the Shinou....No, it might have been even stronger.... A tremendous threat to the human land. We learned the hard way that his appearance is deceiving.

Saralegui: Is that so? Now I want to become his friend even more.

Maxine: Friends with that.... ?

Saralegui: Oh? Are you shaking Maxine? Is the Maou really that scary? But think about it... if I could manipulate the will of a man with that kind of power, wouldn't it be the same as being able to control the world?

Adalbert: The world, huh....? You might loose...

Saralegui: It's fine. I've heard that he just came here from a different world, that he's like a newborn baby who knows nothing. I want ..... him. To tame him, and raise him to my own particular liking.

Maxine: Don't do it, your Majesty. You won't be able to tame him. Please return him to where you found him.

Saralegui: I still haven't picked him up.

Maxine: You say you'll take care of him, that you'll take him on walks, but in the end, I am the one who will have to look after him...

Saralegui: Are you my mother? Eww... I don't want a mother with a beard like that!

Adalbert: You're just worrying Maxine, right, Your Majesty?

Saralegui: You never close that mouth huh? Well, putting that aside there's something more important we need to talk about. Is the rumor that Big Shimaron has obtained the key to open the box true?

Adalbert: Yes, I've heard about that after we came back from Caloria. Recently, it is said that the key was brought to Berard's Royal Palace.

Saralegui: In the end.... it was true.....

Adalbert: Is shocking, isn't it? That something like that could happen..... I would have never thought that it was in a place like that ....

Maxine: A place like that.... ?

Adalbert: Ah! I heard this while you were sleeping. Don't worry about it.

Saralegui: Then, what's this key?

FX: *takes out Conrad's arm*

Saralegui: And here I thought I had found my way around Big Shimaron, since I somehow managed to get this. Why are there two left arms of Lord Weller?

Adalbert: Tsk... he was so flashy... He wouldn't let go of his sword no matter what.

Saralegui: Tell that to Big Shimaron. I want to know the reason behind there being two of them.

Adalbert: There's no way I could have heard something like that right? Well, couldn't it have been the Shinou's decision?

Saralegui: In the end, this is a fake?

Maxine: But, there's no doubt about it. That is, indeed, the left arm of the Wellers descendant and there's only one descendant of the Wellers. There's no way it could be a fake.

Saralegui: So even if the rightful owner of the key brought it himself to Berard's Palace? Even so, you say this is not false?

Maxine: No, no! That could never....!

Adalbert: In the end, until you try it you won't find out...

Saralegui: Then you try it, Maxine.

Maxine: Eh? Me?

Saralegui: That's right. Test if this key is the real deal and can open the box.

Maxine: Ah, but....

Saralegui: You're talking back again? Cut it out. Listen, since they have gotten a hold of the key over there as well, we cannot afford to fall behind. So, ..... if possible... we should steal the box that they have too.

Adalbert: Hey, hey... that's dangerous.

Saralegui: If we have the same weapon, we could only struggle for supremacy, right? That's pointless. What we need is overwhelming supremacy over them. First and foremost, there's nothing to be happy about being in the same situation as Big Shimaron.

Maxine: However, even if you say we should "steal" it, how would we do that...?

Saralegui: That's right... Soon, The Greatest Fighter Tournament that takes place every 4 years will start....." The Greatest Fighting Event on the Planet" I mean[6]. While the event is being held, the security of Big Shimaron will get sloppy. During that time.... you'll have to do something...

Maxine: Even if you say "something"....

Saralegui: You can steal it, replace it with something else, beg for it... you have many options, right? Come up with a plan yourself. Since Adalbert will be with you, you'll manage somehow, right?

Adalbert: I won't be joining him...

Saralegui: Eh, why?

Adalbert: Hey, hey. I'm not your subordinate. I'm just someone who's here by chance. Originally I wasn't even going to tag along with him. More importantly, this is the long awaited Fighting Tournament. It is a lot more fun if you participate as a player.

Saralegui: But it's not fun at all. Because no matter what, everyone knows Big Shimaron is going to win. That's how it works.

Adalbert: Not really. There's no doubt that strong people gather there. I want to have a fight with an interesting enemy. A mercenary with a strong arm would be great.

Saralegui: You seem to be pretty confident.... Well, as long as you don't get in the way, I don't care one way or the other. Is there a possibility that you may help us a bit?

Adalbert: If the situation were to present itself, huh? If that happens there, give it a shot and try calling me for help.

Saralegui: I see..... Then I guess I'll have to go too...

Maxine: Eh? Where?

Saralegui: To The Greatest Fighter. Our team is participating, but to be honest I've never seen the tournament. I guess this is a good opportunity to go see it.

Maxine: As a distinguished guest?

Saralegui: You're so stupid, I'll go there secretly, of course! Do you even know the reason why we're going?

Maxine: Ah... please excuse me.....

Saralegui: Hm! It's settled! Let's do it. I'm looking forward to it. I heard it's a really big festival. I'm sure that lots of people from lots of countries will be there.*chuckles* I have the feeling that something big, that something really big will happen....*chuckles*

References[edit]

  1. Reference to track 3, when Anissina said the same thing about Günter.
  2. There are three ways men can say I: ore(rude), boku (informal), and watashi (formal).
  3. May this be a lesson to you if you ever want to work in Japan. Never make up excuses for yourself. Never say "but". Take the reprimand and say "yes, yes". I once had a boss shout these exact words at me, loud enough for the rest of the employees to hear. (just replace Majesty with "boss"...)XD
  4. There's a popular TV show about children going out on "their first task".... (It's been running for many years) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5k5XTZy0rA
  5. This is probably connected to Anissina's relief efforts in Hildeyard. So, a quick review of Shin Makoku's finances: In CD 7 (track 7) Günter mentions that since Yuuri became the king, the financial affairs of the nation had "started to stabilize". In novel 4 (chapter 10)Anissina sets up an educational center for women in Hildeyard. Now Adalbert is talking about there being a "reconstruction organization" in Shin Makoku as proof of their economy doing well.
  6. Tenkabu or "The Greatest Fighter" is an acronym of "The Greatest Fighting Event on the Planet"
