Form 3?

Post by Umiman »

Shouldn't it be grade 9 or something?
This was since my being able to barely pass the graduation examination was purely the fruits of the tutoring my mom had forcefully persuaded me to endure since Form 3.
Unless of course, we're following the British schooling standard here.

"Form 3" doesn't make much sense to me from a British point of view either. A ‘form’ to me is a tutor group for a school year, so I'm not sure what Form 3 is referring to here. The 3rd year of middle school?

From a Malaysian standpoint:

Primary school:
Standard 1 - 5

Middle school:
Form 1 - 3

High school:
Form 4 - 5

Jr. College:
Form 6

We're based of the British education system. And I know Britain has Form 6 as well and the rest of the form standard, only it's not referred to as such.

Yeah, 6th form or college is ages 16-18 here and the rest is just referred to as Year 1 - 11.

I don't think the occasion has really come up in the past where school year naming has being needed, so perhaps GDsMDDLFNGR is using the system he's used to? I think the Japanese school year numbering gets reset at the beginning of middle school and high school as far as I'm aware, though I could be wrong.

@HolyCow: It was from Editor. =)

Once again, the current translation of Kyon's story was not posted by me... I'm still finishing up a few more pages before I post mine 8) and for mine, I put it in as third year (of middle school).

Oh right, I forgot we had a mystery translator on our hands. That solves that one then. :P

As the project leader of this particular chapter have said. It is TRUE that the book simply says the third year of middle school. :? BUT! I thought it sounded weird, so I tried to replace it with Form 3 instead.

Regarding your question whether I would continue translating, I do not know. I posted that translation as a draft, I'll be catching Onizuka to see if he likes it or not. Considering I am using the chinese books, there's a huge loss of translation accuracy when japanese turns to chinese, then chinese to english. :x

PS: I did not translate the names, because they were freakin chinese, and I don't know how to romanize chinese/japanese names. So I left them untranslated so a real japanese translator could stick his hands into it.

PPS: Cheers!

PPPS:  Straddle Straddle (PS: A spoiler for the chapter I contributed, now go figure)

Yea. It would have been better if he could register though. That way it'll be easier to give him credit

Right now, we'll refer to him as "Mystery IP" ;P

Meh, I have a criminal record of vandalizing Baka-Tsuki with a Higurashi-Kanon-Haruhi joke translation :D
