What order should the novels be read?

Just like the anime it seems the novels are a little out of order. I read them all because they are incredible but I'm just wondering what order they SHOULD be read in. Especially, which novel should be read after volume 9; the one where Sasaki makes her debut.

I suppose you should read volume 10 after volume nine.

Seriously now. It's clear you're posting for the sake of posting, and that needs to stop.

To answer the original question; Read them in the order they were published. Simple as that.

Yeah, that is what I did. I was just wondering what the order would be chronologically.

Someone did a chronological listing of the novels once, I can't remember what thread it was in though. If you're willing to spend some time with the search function, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to find though.

The problem is many of the short stories are interlaced so far as where they fit in the main story. Vol 5 occurs accros the entire year, for example, while Vol 2 happens before the festival in vol 1, and live a live and Ep00Asahina Mikuru both occur during said festival. The series is chronological insanity.

Yeah, that's true. I'll wiki it. This series is one of the best though... I love Yuki!!! She is the best character ever!!! Well one of the best.

Guess nobody reads the project page anymore, or you all just missed the link next to where it says "should you want to read everything ordered by date". ^_^

But for the really lazy...

Volume 1: The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 3: The Boredom of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 5: The Rampage of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------Prologue - Summer
-------------Endless Eight
Volume 2: The Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 6: The Wavering of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------Live A Live
-------------Asahina Mikuru's Adventure Episode 00*
Volume 5: The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya
-------------Prologue - Autumn
-------------The Day of Sagittarius
Volume 4: The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 6: The Wavering of Suzumiya Haruhi
-------------Charmed at First Sight LOVER
Volume 5: The Rampage of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------Prologue - Winter
------------Snow Mountain Syndrome
Volume 6: The Wavering of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------Where did the Cat Go?
Volume 7: The Intrigues of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------Prologue (flashback portion only)
Volume 6: The Wavering of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------The Melancholy of Asahina Mikuru
Volume 7: The Intrigues of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------(remainder of Prologue, then rest of chapters, in order)
Volume 8: The Indignation of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 9: The Dissociation of Suzumiya Haruhi
------------(all chapters, in order)
Volume 10: The Astonishment of Suzumiya Haruhi (not yet released)

* - filmed during Volume 2, shown ("off-screen") during Live A Live, but framing narration clearly happens directly after the latter

Of course, I still think they should be read in published order.
