Ah, that was what i was going to comment on, at leased 40-50% of Singapore's most effective defense and offensive strategy is financial, economical "soft power".
If the faeces does hit the fan, lets just say, Singapore can pretty much ruin that countries infrastructure in a vengeful M.A.D.

Probably not over night and not fast enough to stop any offensive action any time soon, but like a tropical brightly coloured frog, it can assuredly make it a double K.O. that'll easily cause enough harm to send disruptive ripples though the entire global economy and have far reaching consequences for other nation outside of Asia, especially in these unstable times.

It's the sort of projected "soft power" that Hong Kong has (No.1 developed financial City in the World 2011, First Asian & City State to reach the top, beating UK, USA, Australia & Singapore) ...well it's the only one actually!

It's certainly better then any homegrown Singaporean TV drama that i've ever seen! Well, at leased you have English ones, oh and its about sports (swimming!) and not just about comedy/love, police or Triads!....

Did you guys know that in Brazil the military service is also compulsory for all men from ages ranging from 18 to 22? The thing is that here things work a little different...

When you go enlist in the armed forces, they have to make a selection of candidates (since there wouldn't be enough resources to enlist everybody in active duty)... So the first thing you do is a medical exam, after that you go to an interview (usually with an officer or a NCO).

The first question they ask is: "Do you want to serve in the armed forces?". If you say no, it's highly unlikely they're gonna select you to active duty... unless the guy that's conducting interview is in a really bad mood.

In my case, after asking that the guy looked at me and said: "You're going to college, right? What you're going to do?"... When I awnsered that I intended to do Medicine, the guy looked at me (from top to bottom... it was kinda of scary) and replied: "You're gonna be a good doctor, hope you join the army someday.". And them gave me the CDI (Certificado de Dispensa da Incorporação - Certificate of exemption of incorporation)...

QFT. Next year, i going to pass this...Xeones don't mention that, but depending the area, training is different. Here we have a special focus on survival into the jungle (Amazon) I assume it's really nice get stuck in a cage for two days in a tropical florest.
