Man, it's been a pain in the ass not having a computer for Christmas and New Year.

My Fujitsu laptop, which I only just bought months before, had to have its hard disk die on me on Christmas Eve, of all the times.

Fortunately I normally save all my anime in an external HDD, not to mention I regularly back up any important documents and pr0n there, so the damage was limited.

Sure Japan doesn't have Christmas holidays, but they do take their New Year celebration very seriously. Unlike the Chinese, Koreans and Vietnamese, when the Japanese ditched the lunar calendar in favour of the Gregorian one, they also shifted all their traditional lunar calendar festivals to their corresponding Gregorian dates.

So Japanese New Year celebrations is the equivalent to Lunar New Year celebrations in the Chinese speaking world (or Thanksgiving for Americans), when the entire country practically shuts down for 6 days (Dec 29th to Jan 3rd) as everyone is rushing to go back to their families, leaving me with no computer to DL stuff with, and I had to wait till the 4th before I could call the local Fujitsu center and get them to fix it at once (thankfully it's under warranty so it's free).

Thank goodness for smart phones, as for the past few weeks, I've been surfing using my Android phone. It was a pain to type using a small phone keypad.

Only a few days ago did I get my laptop back, but they tell me I'll have to install the OS all by myself. And so I had to spend the past few days installing all sorts of vital programs and drivers. (To add insult to injury, the machine's in-built WiFi adaptor seems to have gone kaput despite all the repairs, so I had to dish out a few bucks just to get an external USB WiFi adaptor in order to even get on)

Anyway I'm back. Rant over. Happy Lunar New Year BTW folks.
