ainsoph9 wrote:@Khaleel: It sounds like the way history and geography is taught in Brazil is a(n) (over)reaction to various parts of history and expressions used. I know that many Central and South Americans are offended when people refer to the United States as "America," forgetting that other countries make up America as a whole. Does this have to do anything with it you think?

Man...If in your history test:

"Say what you know about Capitalism, Socialism and History"

You respond:

"Capitalism = EUA(Estados Unidos da América) = Rich People with nuclear guns. North Hemisphere: Rich People | Socialism: = URSS: The Good guys misinterpreted. South Hemisphere: Miserable and explored people."

You will get B+. That's because have bad teachers, teachers who are not qualified to teach. Now, imagine how is it in Peru, Ecuador,Venezuela, Bolivia...Yeah.

I don't mind about Americans refer his country as "America", but, yes, many people feel offend. But, we usally call them "norte americano"(north-american, incorrect, of course) or "estado(state) unidense(...damn...Very difficult to translate or find a equal term...)" to people from USA. Canadians are Canadians, but some people can confuse Canadians with Americans.

It's perhaps a bit offensive to the Americans, but here's what you could write (draw) then. Parodied, but still funny:

@Khaleel: You do not need to sweat it. I took Spanish in high school, and the terms in Spanish and Portuguese are similar for the United States. In Spanish, it is Estados Unidos or EEUU for short.

@kira: I actually got a laugh out of both of perspectives. I have seen much, much worse.

After victory in Iowa, Romney leads in New Hampshire.

Romney 36%, Paul 25%, Huntsman 16%, Gingrish 11%, Santorum 10% and Perry 1% as I post.
