Flesch-Kincaid-based Blog Readability Test

Post by onizuka-gto »

heh. I just discovered this webpage that features a readability test.

http://www.criticsrant.com/bb/reading_level.aspx

The test is an online tool that analyzes the readability level of blogs (or any webpage with text), then translates that into the "Level of Education" necessary to understand the writing.

The site doesn't reveal the criteria it uses to judge a particular blog's readability, but Mental Floss figures it's some variant of the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Formula, which concentrates on things like sentence length and number of syllables per word.

And if your interested to know, i ran both the forums and the wiki though it.

I'm happy to say that both the wiki and forum were rated:

So this kinda explains why i get headaches when i come here, far too high for my level...

As for other websites, amusingly for http://www.bbc.co.uk the results were:

No wonder i find it relaxing when i go there.....

Interesting. While the system sounds broader than Microsoft's version in terms of categorizing things, it certainly is better than Microsoft Word's method. Why? Almost anything beats a Microsoft product. By the way, I am not a Mac user.
