What is the primary reason for you to be translating/editing

Post by larethian »

Translating / Editing is tough work. Yes, even editing, I believe, since you need brain energy and time to reformulate sentences and smoothen them. So why do you do it? For me, aside from spreading the enjoyment to others, it's primarily to improve my Japanese. That's why I chose to translate from Japanese, though it will probably be easier if I do it from Chinese. :)

I actually have 2 reasons, but the main reason is for a total personal challenge. I would say that its 80% challenge, and 20% want to help others.

Mind you this personal challenge has me already nearly memorized all 1800 something Kanji. Took me 5 months(computer death hiatus not being an issue  ...) and I'm getting there!

Ah, that's good.

As for me, mostly boredom (I don't want to end up playing video games all day...)

Ill translate again once I get out of a Certain Rigorous High School.

*Senior Project, Portfolio, and Internships oh my!

But hopefully, I'll find a light novel I can get my hands on legally, and then help translate.

Tis portfolio to chronicle all my awesomeness during high school.

That and I send it in with college apps.

On another note, has no one noticed the shout out to Index?

I said: A Certain Rigorous High School.

Eh its a resume, but still some people have gotten to prestigious colleges with it.

Never underestimate the value of your portfolio. In my case, it was a collection of computer programs I had written, and output from them which I had collected, and it impressed my first employer enough that he gave me my first job out of college. I stayed with that company 13 years.

But back to the topic of this thread: Why am I doing this? I set a personal goal to learn the Japanese language, even if only a fraction as fluent as I am in Spanish. This translation work is part of the hard exercise required to build the mental muscles. It's a challenge.

I know, and I decided to be a little proactive and start randomly building robots.

Going to an engineering school sometime in the future.
