Ko'nichiwa ya'll!

Hello, I am new to these forums (in fact I had not heard of Baka-Tsuki until last month) and reading the light novels has kind of inspired me to learn Japanese and help contribute to the translation front. So far the language is proving easier than I feared it would be. However any advice (as well links to useful sites) would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance and please look after me ^^

Some of the other avatars here are a bit "non-conventional." Welcome to the forum.

You want advice?

YOU CANT HANDLE ADVICE!!!!!

But in all seriousness, Welcome to B-T. My main advice would be to get all your kanji, kana, and katakana in order. Without them translation is really hard, or at least cumbersome.

Why does that sound more racist than it was meant to be?

They're basically normal flashcards, just on a computer program.

You learn to identify kanji in english first, and learn the readings later. I didn't like that method.

It works for me. Ill learn the readings through sheer attrition while having fun.

The problem I personally have with that is that you can't actually read Japanese with Japanese in your mind. That's just me.

As far as this guy learning in 18 months, I'm sure he got good, but evidently had no life in the process from what I read.

Yeah Im guessing. But I dont have a life either. Also, its just passive learning. Surround yourself with japanese, just like you are a baby learning a language is really what the theory is.
