2-3 episodes per volume can get you about that much

It makes more sense when you add in the extra stuff like OVAs and staff comments

There's also companies like Shaft who does alternate scenes in the dvd/blu-ray versions

They are quite expensive, that isn't something that can be denied. If it's worth it to you, buy it.

I'm going to buy Madoka eventually. (Doubt the boxed set, probably single volumes, my main problem is knowing if they come with subs or not. )

That's half the price of a [English translated] VN. Everywhere I find it, it's about 80-90 US dollars. (per volume).

Madoka is getting an English release, and I have a feeling Memo Pad will too. Which will be sad if I wait for those releases, but I'm a poor college student.

For someone who isn't able to read the light novels I found the anime moderately entertaining.
