Well, normally, two companies don't have the time to air 3-4 anime per season, don't they?

I think Gonzo had 3 shows on at a single season once...

All of them failed hard and they went bankrupt a year later =D

This season, Production I.G., J.C. Staff, and A-1 Pictures are all doing more than one series. Production I.G. is working on three at once. Mind you, this does NOT include OVAs and movies. Some other studios are working on one series with multiple OVAs and movies lined up. So, it is possible, but it means that they have a lot of people on their payroll or they are working them to death (the latter being more likely).
