Beware the talking cat fails. Kino no Tabi has too much of a plot focus. It uses plot for its philosophical viewpoints. I am thinking of a series that is about nothing, really. Character relations and the background carry more importance without going into the dating sim thing.

Gunslinger Girls, there's little action and the characters are all developed.

Because your first criteria is impossible to fulfill because if both shows have barely anything to do with one another, then having a shared character fails that.

The second one is redundant. If both shows share a character, they already have something in common with one another. And because of this, they can be sequels or the like.

But at least the second one can be answered, so I'll go with that:
Shigore Asa from Shuffle! and the sequel.

Criteria: There's no text / talking for at least one chapter / episode

The answer I was looking for was SRW and Cybuster, where the only thing in common are giant robots and some characters, but I admit I could have worded it better.

hmmmm, I really can't think of an anime but I remember one of the chapters in Negima was done all in picture words instead of actual text
