The story revolves around a typical high school boy named Kakeru Daichi and the can of melon juice soda that he bought from a vending machine. The can suddenly transforms into a beautiful but standoffish girl that Kakeru nicknames "Melon," and more "Akikan" ("empty can") girls appear. However, Akikan girls need to be infused with carbon dioxide from kissing to survive.

well couple of things i got o say.
1. is funny
2. wtf a can lol
3. but the art quaility is bad. sigh

anyway give it a try and see if you like it.

actually i wanted to post this in the recommendations novel section to translate this but you guys have too much stuff on your hands so i will leave it be.

There's a novel for this? Why, I don't know! :O

The concept of Akikan being a girl disguising as a can, needing "CO2 Kiss" to survive is so weird I had to take my time coming to terms of "Okay, it's like this. Now on to the story!"

Yes, it is a novel, it has like 2 volumes in chinese so far... Watching the anime kinda interests me, but it doesnt seem all that special for me to buy it yet...

Agreed. I find myself thinking that I probably could drop this one like a hot potato. I do not think that they matched the seiyuu quite right for Melon Soda. I know this is a bit too cliche, but I think that Kugimiya Rie would have been a better choice. Frankly, I am getting a little tired of half-baked harem series. This just seems like another one of those. I think that anime, in order to keep fresh and survive as an industry, needs to mix things up a bit more. It is becoming harder and harder to find original series with good plots and non-stereotypical characterization. Now, I am not saying that I want to quit watching anime; I am saying that the anime industry needs to find better source material.

Noted. The animation is definitely on the low-budget side.

It reminds me of Inukami but worse at everything Inukami did.

No kidding. Which studio did this series again? If it keeps on cranking out this crap, I would think that they should be ashamed of themselves. Touhou is being done by a doujin group and looks better for crying out loud!

Umm... Xebec? Coming to think of it they also spoiled the first Negima!.

.... I might be wrong since I only recalled through memory. There might be a "flux" in my memory though (what am I!? An AI!?).

Baccano came out really good, and I didn't see anything wrong with Kurenai either. :?

After episode 2...

... the only thing I want to complain about this show is the art quality. Period.

I am actually interested to read Kurenai, reason? I watched the anime and find it quite good. The weird thing? I saw a few forums that said the anime is a failure.... Just how good is the novel i wonder?

I think I remember hearing that there were some significant differences between the novel and the anime. I think that the novel is supposed to be much more messed up in some ways, which is why I believe we never took up the project here. Also, I do not think that we had a translator at the time. But, hey, my memory is always on the fritz anymore.
