Or its possible that the universe did explode, but its a failsafe system that makes you never mean it.

I would argue that it is the opposite; they do not use their brains enough so that they suffer from atrophy.

Your brain is kind of like an engine. If you do not maintain it and allow it to sputter, you will eventually choke it and kill it.
