Price Markups

Post by Umiman »

I was looking over some computer desktops in the name of procrastination when I got curious about how much it would cost to build one of those nifty Dell XPSes.

Here's the system: (Canadian Dollars)
http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/con ... =720HX_R_E

Here's the pricing list I used (Sri Computers in Low Yat Plaza Malaysia) for comparison: (Malaysian Ringgit)
http://images.lowyat.net/pricelist/sri.gif

Assume currency exchange rate of 3.8 MYR for 1 CAD.
The total pricing for the Dell XPS at full settings without the monitor reached around CAD6000++

Going by the best (or equivalent) that's available at Sri Computers, it would cost me around MYR4000 to build the same thing, or about... oh, I dunno... 1/6th the cost? (CAD1200)

Sheeeeet....

How much would it cost you to build that system with market prices in your country? Ignore everything such as haggling, bidding, your uncle's friend owns a computer store and whatnot.

I'm in Canada, so that $8000 for the max specs sound extremely overpriced.

I can easily get that same system but with a different case for just $5000 mainly because those video cards and processors are waaaaaay too expensive.

P.S. Dell sucks.

You can build a comparable system for about US$2000 (Same parts except those not explicitly listed = ~$1700)

You can save over $200 by ditching the sound card and getting a 7200RPM hard drive ($160 vs $45 same capacity). Integrated sound is more than good enough for anything other than thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment.

Also not paying the Microsoft tax.

Hahaha, forgot to mention that.

I didn't include the Microsoft tax as well. =P
