Holy crapfuck!
Seth, if you're questioning that modding stuff, that usually means you haven't researched it enough.
I mean honestly, if you poke up once your entire system could go *bzzt* and just not work.

If you don't know how to mod, it's best not to do it yourself.
I was thinking about modding my PS2 too, but I just decided to get Swap Magic, since I've never taken the screws off more than a battery compartment. It's kinda annoying to stick that flat thing in the PS2 every time I wanna play an import game, but I guess I'd rather do that than completely fry my PS2 (even though that would give me a good excuse to get a PS3. ).

LOL mine came modded. In Malaysia, unless you buy your PS2 from an official retailer, it's bound to be modded. Mine even came with 15 free pirated game CDs

Re: "Back Up" games for the PS2
That's a good choice. If you don't know how to solder, there's a good chance you'll just ruin your system. Some of the pinpoints, like in the Wii, are around 1mm in diameter or smaller.

Re: "Back Up" games for the PS2
For the wii, I'm pretty sure you can use the twilight hack to load foreign games.
edit: nevermind, that was a seperate freeloader, which does exist but doesn't work for updates 3.3 or higher.
edit edit: there is a region changer, but it once again, is only for foreign games.

Re: "Back Up" games for the PS2
Just a word of caution in using swap magic: since the PS2 is not intentionally designed to use swap magic, it may end up shortening the life of your PS2 and how well the games that do not use swap magic play. This is what eventually happened to my NES and N64 with Game Genie and Game Shark.

Re: "Back Up" games for the PS2
Aren't those problems because of the cartridge format?
I know the problem for the NES was it bent out the 72 pin connector(no idea for the n64), so I doubt this would create the same kind of problems.

Re: "Back Up" games for the PS2
They both were cartridge systems. I know that the risk involved could be completely different, given that they are different systems by different companies after all. However, I have heard more problem stories over success stories on these kinds of things. But, hey, while the party lasts, rock on, I guess.
