I don't know what's that. Suffice to say protection of themselves. If the backlash is going to force them into a tangled mess and the profits aren't that good, they are unlikely to agree

Yup, but EX was also released in an all ages version later because of the additional content.

I remember having played through Saya's route without knowing a single Kanji, using RikaiChan. Aah, good times (?).

To my knowledge, it is only Clannad that does not have adult content in it, at least in the original release.
