Damn a double facepalm is really pushing the limits of human stupidity to a level to which I have never seen.

I could say something, but it would be too mean.

Anyways, there are forwords, forwards, afterwords, afterwards and backwards.

You are just trying to push the facepalm thing at this point, are you not? Here. You earned another one. If you go beyond the Three Stooges level...

There are also Howards. Though I don't think it's directly linked to afterwords.

Anyways, why doesn't 'afterword' take an 's'?

There isn't multiple afterwords in light novels I guess?

1 afterword per novel.

It is kind of like approaching a person to say, "I would like a word with you." Even though they will say more than one word in the literal sense, they mean that what they are saying is a singular message as if it was a single word. So, the same more or less applies to the "afterword."

Though in this case, the singular suggests that it for a short moment. It means that you want to pass on a short message.

Not always. The length of the message does not always correspond to the singular meaning of the message. I can pontificate on a subject all day long and never diverge from it, but it is still considered giving a word. This is somewhat illustrated by English-speaking Christianity sometimes calling the Bible the "Word," based on John 1. Even though the Bible discusses seemingly many different topics at length, it is still talking about an overarching topic, albeit taking many words to discuss said topic; yet, it is still considered to be a word known as the "Word."
