I would certainly love to see more new works being included in the ranking. But considering it is more or less a popular contest, I would place my bet on 魔法科高校の劣等生 for being one of the top 10s. After all, it is the only new series that has broken the 100,000 line and with strong support both inside and outside the otaku community.

Honestly speaking I am more interested in the collaborator ranking than the general ranking of Konorano (which is just a slightly more sophisticated version of online polls and is severely influenced by the number of hardcore fans rather than the quality of each series).

This is the one for 2011. Along with the mainstream choices of Haganai and Bento, there are quite a few classy and quality choices largely ignored by the public at that time. I find it very helpful for digging up new series to read and I very much look forward to the one for 2012. :)

eh? Is that your speculation list? or wish list or your personal top 10? :lol:
俺の彼女と幼なじみが修羅場すぎる also broke through 100,000 with 2 volumes within 4 months. It also has 2 drama CDs, and 2 mangas, and 1 4-koma serialization, and an irregular internet radio streaming.

No. I am too bad at speculations and out of touch with mainstream stuff, so I can't imagine coming up with an accurate list of 10 most popular titles. Probably I was not clear enough. But the list in my previous message was simply the collaborator ranking of Konorano 2011 for illustrating my point.

I don't like the collaborator ranking to be predictable. More surprises are welcomed because I need it for picking up new series.

In the past, the Konorano general ranking was not something you could speculate on and that was why I liked it for discovering good series. Well at least I can still rely on the collaborator ranking.

Good to know that. Actually I haven't read 劣等生 yet (even though I have a copy). As for 修羅場, I have only read the 100-page sample available as promotion before the sale of vol.1. So it is pure speculation on my side :lol: .

AFAIK 劣等生 has been serialized for many years before published in book form with strong non-otaku support (which means continuous sales of stable growth like normal literature instead of a one-off boom on the first day of sale). It has been said that its length can rival Index (estimated to be over 20 bunkos and still expanding). It just takes time for Dengeki to release one book every few months.

EDIT: Just checked and it seems like it broke the 450k line in the first month:

(Btw for Dengeki titles, usually only those with the "S" rank marked in this official order sheet have a chance to get into Konorano top 10)

This is interesting info. I've been meaning to see what 魔法科高校の劣等生 is about, since the title sounds like something I may like.

And the fact I picked up 俺修羅 despite not being a genre I normally read (and I'm also too lazy to read samples off the computer), is because of the hype from some acquaintances, and because my local Kino carries it. When my local Kino carries a LN title and customers can get it without making an order request, it's an indication that it's well received in Japan.

Interesting. It is the reverse here: when the downtown Japanese book store carries a certain LN title and customers cannot get it unless they make an order request, it's an indication that it's extremely well received.

10. Monogatari Series

Should be something like this in my mind. Though I don't go to 2ch, nor LNs stores, nor Japanese popular blogs/websites...

Though I don't know the average salary in Japan, and the food prices, etc...

So to make it simpler, is 500 yen enough for, let's say, a fast food meal?

Oh, and is it worth it?

Here's a partial list when you think of how you spend your JPY500:

* Coke 500ml - JPY120 to JPY150
* Burger (ala carte) from a McDonalds in Japan - JPY550
* Large gyuudon meal from a Yoshinoya - JPY480
* One of the numerous phone directory-sized manga magazines - JPY480 to JPY620
* Bentou from a Lawson - JPY550 to JPY950
* Regular-sized latte from a Starbucks - JPY550

Also, where will you order this magazine from? Amazon?

The link is from Amazon, if I remember well.

Holy, things are expensive in Japan.

This would be the breakdown if I'm mad enough to order this solo from Amazon:

"This Light Novel Is Amazing 2012" - JPY476 (assuming JPY500 includes the tax)
Handling fee - JPY300
Shipping fee - JPY1900 (assuming I send it to my place)

As you can see, this is why I would usually order this along with some LNs and/or magazines ...

Me too, I'd be mad to command it. First, I'm not enough old to get a card. Second, I live on the other side of the Earth...
