Running Music

Post by hobogunner »

So, I really haven't created a new topic for a while, but I felt like I should create this one both for discussion and for me to use it as a notepad.

The point is to put your favorite running songs, the ones that you will always listen to, no matter what, while you are running:
I think these are [light] extremes as to what I'll take my music to....I honestly like listening to ballads while I'm jogging, but if I'm going anywhere over 6 mph, I need something more sharp, than harmony.

Although I do not run often (enough), I typically just listen something fast and hard to help motivate me. It tends to make the run go by quicker.

When I was in college, I remember working out at the gym, and half of the time they would have country playing there. It felt so very, very wrong listening to country while pumping iron. It was kind of like listening to the list of banned music right after 9/11 in public out loud, if you get my drift.

Ah, I certainly do.

I've forgotten my iPod a few times, but, I'm lucky because my gym only plays classical rock that everyone likes. Journey, Kansas, Queen, The Eagles, etc, etc.

I don't even comprehend them playing country.

In response to you're fast / hard music, I sort of see where you're coming from, but I prefer something slower that I can think about, than something that's slowest beat is 10x faster than my feet are touching the ground. (I like things that have beats exactly at my running pace, but I only know of like 3 songs that do that for me, which lead me to a 8 minute mile.)

Playing slower music can be good sometimes as well, but I need to be in the mood for it.

I do find that it helps to play something that matches your pace, but it sometimes can cause you to strain yourself if you are not careful, especially if you are trying to "march" to the tempo.

Yeah, when you're that 1/3 of the step ever 2 or so from matching it perfectly, and want to do so.

I hate it when you're off by such by such a small increment. :?

Meh, I got a taste of marching band back in junior high school, and I found that out the hard way. I have never looked back nor regretted not joining marching band after that point.

Oh God, I quit after Middle School.

I haven't regretted it sense, aside from my inability to play my flute aside from a few scales, and what songs I have sheet music for.

Ok, just kidding.

Guns n' Roses is my favorite band, and I start with this music, because is perfect for warm up.

I'm not particularly a fan of speeding up for X minutes, then slowing back down.....I prefer just constant pace.

Also, Rise Against is disturbingly easy to run to.

The interesting thing about speeding up and slowing down is that is what a lot of treadmills do.

I thought that was more what the cheaper ones do? I didn't think the higher quality ones had clutch engagements in them.

(Doesn't really bother me much, because I run outside once a week or so, but still, weird.)

I do not know for sure. I am not a treadmill buff or anything. It would be fun to change the song tempo to match your pace as the treadmill varies speed. 8)

speaking of that, I've almost thought of using a drumset and just tapping the bass at whatever speed I want, and masking that over all my songs.

It would be funnier to just run with an instrument and rock out as you ran.
