Also, on an unrelated note, I've never fully understood why haikus have become a part of learning English in school. The syllables just don't really line up very well. So much more can be said with Japanese in one syllable than in english with one. Just weird to me.

@hobogunner: poetry in english has enough natural forms as it is for students to have to know how to westernize haiku, i realized that as well because i suffered the same dilemma a couple years ago. then again, having to do décima in Filipino and American English pretty much relegated me to the free-verse department..
