I've made what would be considered a major edit to the first part of chapter 1.

I changed the "passive voice" to an active one. In the process I re-arranged subordinate clauses within sentences to eliminate excess commas.

"Nonsensically" (no such word) was changed to "ridiculous."

Unnecessary "that" and "had" were deleted.

Please check this over and provide feedback.

I've tried to respect the translator's word choice, especially nouns and verbs.
