Grats for the upgrade!
And the beginng of the novel and the anime are very different for sure - I wonder why they have done it like that

Re: Rental Magica by Makoto Sanda
Novels have an entire volume to start off, animes only have 20mins to grab your attention so you ask for more. Animes tend to have to be more attention grabbing, so how novels and animes are portrayed are quite different. Remember, they are not targeting just the novel fans, but to try creating their own anime fanbase, so they may not be able to follow the novel ideas completely. Fortunately, most of the plots are followed very closely.Darklor wrote:Grats for the upgrade!

God!!
You need not forgive me.
For those I love,
The violence brought about by sinful men
Shall now be used once more.
If you were created to save this world,
If there is a single shred of hope left for the future of mankind,
I am very sorry, but, please begone!

Re: Rental Magica by Makoto Sanda
Been quite a while since I watched it, but if I recall, first episode alone was different from the novel starting, introducing their agency instead of the plain start of the novel. So that is what I thought he meant... Though I might be wrong, in memories,or in understanding his meaning.Darklor wrote:Huh? Re: Italicizing of Japanese honorifics
So I was wondering what exactly should be the standard for this? I personally am not a fan of italicizing them, because it makes it seem as though they should be emphasized. It also seems to break the flow of the sentence, at least for me when I'm reading through it. Also, how are you going to deal with it if someone starts using a honorific sarcastically? I do however agree with italicizing of Japanese terms that appear only once for which there is no English translation. Recurring Japanese terms I think can be italicized the first time and in future times they can be left as normal. What are others' thoughts on this?
Also, what about references vs mouse-over text? My stand is that short translations of Japanese terms with no ready English translation that I stated above as well as phrases with double-readings (eg an English word with Japanese furigana or technical terms particular to this story that is better when left in Japanese but we want to provide readers with an English translation) should use mouse-over text, whereas others should use references.

Re: Rental Magica by Makoto Sanda
Thanks for suggestions but that's actually up to the supervisor or main translator to decide. I personally prefer italics for monologue and flashbacks for my own projects.
Regarding mouseovers, I do not know of any mediawiki's extension that provides such inherent functionality, which means it needs to be programmed by javascript. Not every translator knows how and it becomes hard to duplicate when there are many people working on one project. Also I read off my tablet and would prefer not to have mouseovers, especially when I'm using opera mini.

Yep, but if we discuss our own opinions here it will probably affect their decision. To be honest, I don't know who the supervisor for this project is... and it's too early on in the project to dub anyone as the "main translator", though at this point it seems we only have a single translator, so he can be the main one for now
I had not considered mobile and tablets at all when suggesting the mouse-overs, so that is a good point. However, currently there IS an easy way for mouseover text, at least on baka-tsuki. Syntax: {{H:title|<mouseover tooltip text>|<inline text>}}

Re: Rental Magica by Makoto Sanda
Vol 18 Chinese is out. Finally, our dear protagonist is moving away from the useless dork region into a whole new region. But seriously, the ideas in the novel are so brilliant, it almost makes you wonder how did the author even come up with them!
In the previous arcs, we see Magic VS Magic in terms of might. But now? Welcome to modern warfare, where tactics rule, so much so that even the Astral's weak and uselessness is being used as a weapon, a tool for the ultimately insane idea possible!!

I'm still a long way to catching up even though I have up till volume 19. but I must agree and say that RM is one the most underrated LNs.
