I meant the text being in electronic form and the Baronh having been already translated. Not to mention typos and or print errors corrected.
For example one of the latest short novels used the Baronh for 'artificial planet' without explaining it anywhere. It was used like a name. In the translation I had to make an extra translator's note entry for it. Usually this would have been a furigana, but Morioka probably forgot that.
Translating the Baronh is easy for known ones since I just can do replacing. Depending on the scope it can be just one click or as many as there are Baronh words.
As long as the japanese text has no typos there is no problem.

Ah so you mean someting like a scaned raw with OCR as something like a word file where one could translate in the file itself?

That is correct. Of course, I don't edit in the original files.
That way I can use all dictionaries and thesauruses. Also using replacement tools I could translate all Baronh at once or in smaller steps to avoid replacement errors that happen when therms are partially the same.
The rest is to decide how much liberty to take. I prefer to try to bring over japanese thoughts and all the original information or the way the author wanted to express. For example in one of the new short stories he wrote about the asteroids having been queezed/wrung their resources to exhaustion. In english you would write that their resources have been mined to exhaustion. Here the difference is in the quality of the imagination.

I do wish the first Banner of the Stars book was still in print. Oh well. I won't be able to do any translating but I'd be happy to help with editing. :)

Thank You.

It would take me a while as I'm still learning kanji but I'd be happy to try. :)

All thanks go to Animejunkie.
SNS1-3 will get at least the prologues done. There are tonnes of info missing from the Anime.
Of course Cots1-3 are not going to be done since Tokyopop already had them published even if they are abridged.

Important notice!

Regarding the Seikai no Senki 4 novel translation:
Originally I translated chapters 5 to 10 from the japanese novels.
Animejunkie has revised chapters 5 and 6 to his chinese version which is somewhat different (not much Baronh, some content may be missing).
Both versions are available through the revision history pages of said chapters. The complete japanese versions are prior to 24th March and 4th April 2011.
Main page, Talk pages, and Translation notice pages have been updated with this notice also.

We have decided to use the chinese version as template and fill in the missing parts from the original japanese version. It's not perfectly authentic like a from the ground up translated japanese version, but it should do. To do this we are going to separate the chinese and japanese version, so nothing is lost.
For previous discussions refer to the chinese translated section on the project main page.

Also the russian language translation is in the works. Atm you have to visit the russian fan community to access the russian version. It should be completed a lot quicker.

Our editors are also working hard to do an overhaul of the english. Please be patient.
