That's fine - It would be spectacularly hypocritical of me to say no, given that it's an unlicensed translation to begin with. Best of luck with your French studies :)

Yep, I support this.

Thanks, you two! I hope to make this one of the cleanest and most well-presented projects on the wiki!

Ziggr, I'll have some questions on Volume 17 soon, hope you're ready.

Ooof, been putting this off for too long. My editing has slowed down considerably, but I still wanted to check in with you two and see how you were doing.

enn_are: I don't think I'll have questions on Volume 12, but I haven't done much more than glance at it.

Ziggr: I've been delaying asking about Volume 17 because I managed to work my way through the first few parts I was going to ask about. I'm still only a quarter of the way through, but I have the following I'd like to ask before we get too far along:
  • Chapter 2 Part 1, Note 1 Line 38: Yumi mentions something about winning. What is this in reference to? Was there a competition that I missed?
  • I am pretty sure I mixed up some character lines; it was hard to differentiate who's line was which. Almost all the lines up to Tsutako's entrance are suspect. Would it be possible to run through this for me and list who had each line?
  • Part 3, Note 1 Line 11: I reworded the sentence with "ojou-sama", which I assume is in reference to the wealthy and pampered girls typical of the student body. Does that look correct?
That's all for now, and I'll try to be less of a stranger!

I suspect either a competition with Yoshino over who can fall asleep first, or a competition with sleep itself.

Konno-sensei frequently omits dialog attribution tags. Where Konoo-sensei omits, so did I. The reader must infer or guess. The airport scene with multiple speakers is particularly challenging. Occasionally there are clues from speech, but these are lost in translation, and lost on me, too.
Part 3, Note 1 Line 11: I reworded the sentence with "ojou-sama", which I assume is in reference to the wealthy and pampered girls typical of the student body. Does that look correct?
Yes.

PS: I started the next book (18: An Ordinary Day) but ran out of energy. I do not know if or when I will resume work on it. I'll mark the book as available for another translator should one appear.

Hi Lunar Vitae and ziggr,

Throwing my 2c into the ring:

I suspect either a competition with Yoshino over who can fall asleep first, or a competition with sleep itself.
It looks like a couple of clauses are being misattributed in this paragraph. From my reading, the text is more along the lines of:

It seems that Yoshino-san was so wound up telling herself, "I need to sleep, I need to sleep," that she could not sleep. Yoshino-san probably would have easily overcome this if she'd taken the motion sickness tablets that Yumi had received as a farewell present from Sachiko-sama, but since sleep came naturally to Yumi she hadn't thought to offer them. As for Yoshino-san, it seemed like she never got carsick so she hadn't considered taking any medication either.

It looks like you've got it right - the start is basically Yoshino grumbling and Yumi being non-committal / humoring her. Although there's a couple of lines that should change. The section that starts with:

"Although I do feel there's some difference between international and domestic travelers," Yoshino-san admitted. This was her first experience escaping Japan. They had gone together to get their passports, so Yumi was aware of this.

is more along the lines of:

"For travelers, don't you think the distinction between international and domestic travel is steadily disappearing?" Yoshino-san said, even though this was her first time leaving Japan. Yumi knew this because they'd gone to get their passports together.

"So?"

"Basically, can't they simplify it even further? We shouldn't have to arrive more than 30 minutes before the flight takes off."

"..."

In other words, Yoshino-san wasn't trying to engage in a complicated debate, all she was trying to say was that she'd had to wake up earlier than expected and she was tired. But there was no-one she could complain about this to, so she was distracting herself by talking about "these days" and "simplification."

Along the way, passing by the Wisteria class, they found Shimako-san among the crowd.

The next part is kind of unclear. I think the speakers are:

Shimako: "Gokigenyou. Did you two come together?"

Yumi: 'Yes. We took an express bus from the K station to the airport."

Shimako: "Oh, such a thing exists?"

Yumi (second sentence has a different nuance): "Yes, though it takes a while. Onee-sama said it would be terrible to transfer trains over and over while carrying luggage. This way, once we got on the bus, we could sleep until it brought us to the airport."

Shimako: "But it looks like Yoshino-san didn't get to sleep."

Yoshino (fixed - although it could still do with a bit of a rework): "I never would have thought that having Yumi-san sleeping peacefully beside me could be so annoying."

But I can also see a case for it going Shimako/Yoshino/Shimako/Yoshino/Yumi/Yoshino. I don't think it does, but I could be wrong.

Today, April 24, 2018, marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first volume of the Maria-sama ga Miteru light novel series. Happy anniversary, Marimite!

Thank you both for your input and clarifications! I think the dialogue enn_are lays out is correct. Sachiko would be more likely to complain about moving luggage between trains, and especially more likely to recommend sleeping during the ride. I'll plug it in and see how it flows. I'll work those other changes in shortly as well.

That's perfectly fine, thank you for your work! Also, thank you for the idea to link the section in question.

Enn_are,

What do you think about permanently setting the name of the school? I've seen quite a few variations across the project, including in a single section, and even from yourself. Granted, there are several months between the two (Answer and Volume 7 Prologue). We have:
  • Lillian Girls Academy
  • Lillian's Girls Academy
  • Lillian Girls' Academy
  • Lillian Private Academy for Women
  • Probably others I have forgotten or yet to see
So, do you have any thoughts on the matter? Personally, I've seen "Lillian Girls' Academy" so many times it feels correct, but I can't verify or read the title for myself. It is also the title used on Wikipedia and in the anime, if that adds anything. Additionally, we can assume that any academy is going to be private (in the West, anyway), so I vote to scratch the last one.

EDIT: oh, and I wanted your opinion on removing the information and mentioning of the spinoff series. If that project ever comes to pass, it should have its own page since it is a separate storyline with more than a few volumes.

Lillian Girls' Academy is probably correct then.

My rationale for drifting towards Lillian's was that I was assuming Lillian was being used as the female name, so should be treated something like St. Mary's Academy. But, on reflection, that's probably not correct - AFAIK there's isn't any Lillian that's particularly important to Catholicism/Christianity. Instead, it's probably meant as a parallel to Marian, but for the lily plant/flower. In that case it should be treated like Marian High School.

Although, in that case, it does have certain connotations that make you wonder about the parents that send their daughters there.

I don't mind either way.

Sounds right to me. Lillian Girls' Academy it is.
Although, in that case, it does have certain connotations that make you wonder about the parents that send their daughters there.
Probably has something to do with self-righteousness and/or elitist beliefs about being able to say their daughters attend such establishments.

But that could just be the cynicism talking.
I don't mind either way.
Roger that. Cleaning the page.
