Half-sized え
I encountered a half-sized え(e) in the manga I'm translating, and I'm trying to figure out what it means.
I wasn't really able to find much more info about it, but I figured someone here might know.
ないうわねえ is the sentence it was in, if context matters.
Edit: Also, what is the character which looks like a miniature tsu(つっ) for? I know I learned what it was for once, but I can't seem to remember.
Thank you.

Re: Half-sized え
the half-sized tsu is for double consonants. here's an example exaplanation:
にっぽん - niPpon..
ぜったい - zeTtai..
Basically the syllable that goes after the small tsu gets a double letter..
At least that's what I remember.. ^_^
Have no idea what the small "e" can mean

Re: Half-sized え
well, browsing a little, one variant I found:
"People tend to use a ぇ (the half-sized え) or a ー more often for extending the vowel (which usually conveys a relaxed tone or something along the lines)."
aha..
here's another variant from the same place originating from a Jap. native speaker:
"nee or 「ねえ/ねぇ」 seems to be used as speaking habits of individuals.
Basic expression of "This is good." in Japanese is
これはいいです。
and this can be changed to be
これはいいですね。
これはいいですよ。
これはいいですねえ。(ねぇ。)
これはいい!
これ、いい!
これ、いいぜ!
etc..."
the ね part I guess you know what that it smth like an emphasis indicator, or request of confirmation.
mm.. if I'm not mistaking on all of this..

Re: Half-sized え
Well, to quote from Wikipedia:
"In informal writing, small versions of the five vowel kana are sometimes used to represent trailing off sounds (はぁ, ねぇ)."
So I guess ねぇ would mean Nee... and はぁ would mean Haa... (maybe something like a sigh?)
But I am not a native and am not 100% sure about this.

"Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle."

Yes, that's more or less correct. It's like adding many letter "A"s when you want to go "WHAAAAAAAAT!?" or something like that.Zyzzyva165 wrote:Well, to quote from Wikipedia:
