I took a look at it and this is what I get (I'm being a little more literal, I guess):
"Think 'high school' and you'll get 'rose-colored', think 'rose-colored' and you'll get 'high school'—those two words go hand in hand. Their correlation hasn't made it into the dictionary yet as of 2000, but it is hardly going to take much longer."

爱戴尔瓦斯 is the name. The captain. (エーデルワイス)

For this, I would use the name 'Edelweiss'
zzhk wrote:Well, this demonstrates the problem when names are rendered using character combinations that could be recognized as verbs...
In light of the additional information, the line would be simply:

"Are you referring to the matter of Edelweiss and company?"

It does help if you make it easier for yourself to recognize the names of characters in the story, e.g. by setting up a terminology page.
Ah, thank you both. I was a bit confused by how the Chinese version turned Edelweiss -> Erwasi. Aidaierwasi is closer. And yea, I should get around to setting up a terminology page on the wiki, I have one for my personal use but have been putting off making the page because I'm the only translator working on it here anyways.

Weird meaning I get here

でもね、年頃の女の子が高いところから下々の民衆を見おろして悦に入るなんて、正しい時間の使い方じゃないと思うのよ

"But for an aged woman to take pleasure in looking down at her peasants/people from a high spot(, I think,) is not a correct way to spend her time."

Toshigoro is often used in the context of adolescence/puberty (思春期や、恋愛などに興味を持つ年齢などを指す、婉曲的な表現として用いられることも多い。)
In this case I believe "young woman" or even just "girl" might do the job. Otherwise your translation sounds correct to me.
If anything, the link between "spend time" and "take pleasure" is a bit weak - perhaps another verb like "indulge in", "get entranced" or whatever might be better.

Yea, pudding's translation has the right idea, though I would personally choose to word it a bit more liberally.

Something like "But you see, I think relishing in looking down on the lower class from high above just isn't the right way for an adolescent woman to be spending her(your) time."

I'm not sure if the speaker is actually referring to the listener or not, so I added (your) in case it does.

Taken literally, the red-lettered phrase would be "it (the flames) couldn't squarely achieve its purpose". Which could mean that the "flames were totally nullified" or the "flames were fully blocked off" or the "flames have no effect at all".

I'm only interested in the second part.

Hi, first time on this forum.
I'm having trouble with this phrase from Bakemonogatari book 1 pg 356

戦場ヶ原先輩が阿良々木先輩に惹かれた理由はわかった。嫉妬や失望が、それには不釣合いなのだということも。。。うん、わっかたつもりだ。

My interpretation of it is:
"I think I know why Senjougahara-senpai fell for you (Araragi-senpai). And also that jealousy or disappointment were way out of proportion to that... Yeah, I think I know."

If anyone could tell me whether I'm on the right track or not that'd be really nice. Thanks

I'm jealous and disappointed, plus I feel the two of you are the definition of a total mismatch.

could be phrased better but eh, I'm on my phone during lunchbreak. this should be enough for you to get the meaning.

edit: if you have more questions and no one responds to this thread in 2 days you can PM me directly

No idea what this line is supposed to mean exactly.

非難されるまでもなく自分の無神経な言動に自分で引いた。帰りたい。

'He/she attracted attention to him/herself with his/her own insensitive actions. He/she wanted to go home.' <--- best I can come up with to understand that.

Anyone want to translate and explain the whole sentence for me?
