Mind posting the source? I'll do it once I see the source.
Who the Heck is Cradil? can't remember anyone by that name.

Are you sure? Don't forget that the Material Editions and the published one have a lot of differences.Tap wrote:Okay, according to the material edition books published by the author,
Cline = Klein.
Egil = Agil.
Lizbeth = Lisbeth.
Scilica = Silica.
Cradil = Kuradeel.
Anyone willing to do a mass-replace?
I'll wait for the anime to be sure of the names, since they will appear next to the characters.
Edit : Or we can check the katakana form of the names.
Just before Chapter 16 for Cradil.Pryun wrote:Mind posting the source? I'll do it once I see the source.

Re: Sword Art Online - Names and Terminology
Got Tap's message regarding some name changes. Here's my opinion.
The names were given by the author himself. But since it's still an unofficial work, I think the best thing to do is to wait before changing anything. Knowing the date of publication of this material edition will tell us if it was published before or after the official release, which was edited a lot and which is the reference for most of the events, names and dates.
Moreover, the best thing to do is to wait the anime's airing. Why ? Because the author is participating in the anime supervision by giving a lot of details, including the characters' names in letters and pronounciation. Moreover, an official release of the series would have the names confirmed by the SAO Production Committee.
I'm quite sure that it will be licensed in France, I have information that a company which licensed Accel World has some contacts with Aniplex. So I could give the names as soon as they are mentionned.
If someone has an opinion about that, feel free to reply here.

Well I think the author's transcription must be the first priority, but to be sure, I'd suggest waiting for the anime too. Though I'm absolutely not sure there will be names in romaji there.

Stuff like names are effectively official, even if it's in a self-published work, rather than one handled by a company.Misogi wrote:The names were given by the author himself. I mean, if you don't trust the author on information on his own work, who would you trust?
And yea, we don't really know if romanji transcriptions will be available in the anime.
It's entirely possible they'll use katakana the whole time.

Can we see more hands up before changing? Preferably translators? If no one disagrees I'll don't mind doing the mass change...

Yeah, but since the author has the last word concerning the names and the setting, he will give the transcripted names to the committee.Tap wrote:Stuff like names are effectively official, even if it's in a self-published work, rather than one handled by a company.

And don't forget that for foreign broadcasting, there are subtitles. The subtitles, they will give us the confirmed names.
So I prefer to wait until July before changing anything, that's better.

Well THOSE subtitles are less trustworthy than the author's transcription IMO.Misogi wrote:And don't forget that for foreign broadcasting, there are subtitles.
"Official translation" and "Correct translation" are not synonyms. Sometimes these are totally different things... acually more often than I'd prefer...

Re: Sword Art Online - Names and Terminology
I said already, wait for the anime. If we see romaji names there then we change names to what we see. If not, we change them to what Kawahara-san wrote in ME.

Re: Sword Art Online - Names and Terminology
Personally I think it's better to wait for the anime.
If the anime uses the same spelling than in the author's self-published works then I think we should use it.
But if the anime uses a different spelling then a new discussion will take place and we might have to rechange all the names.
We're not in a hurry and can decide it in two months.

Agreed. We shouldn't touch to the names until the anime airing.Vaelis wrote:Personally I think it's better to wait for the anime.

Re: Sword Art Online - Names and Terminology
OK, waiting for the anime it is then.
Can someone add Cradil, Kibaou, Lindel/Rindel/Whatever-his-name-is-not-seen-rondo-so-don't-know-him-yet etc etc etc to the terminology page anyway? Everytime I need to make sure of their names I end up having to look into the text......
Also,another addition to the terminology page which I find missing is the City and Village names. Could someone put that up?(for consistency)

Re: Sword Art Online - Names and Terminology
Hmm... after thinking it over, I guess it's fine to change the names before the anime airs.
