It can mean both, just like the First Day chapter.
It's written in Japanese, so it can be interpreted both ways.
I personally prefer the "~of Beginnings" name though, like the version of First Day I tossed on my blog...
"City/Town of Beginnings" sounds more name-ish than "Starting City" and all.
"Day of Beginnings" sounds a lot cooler than "First Day" too, but some random person named that chapter before I translated it, so I just kept the name here.

I'll try to check that tomorrow.

@dim1: For some reason your question annoys me. (probably because... the translators have to come up with their terminology on their own(not an easy task, mind you.), while the anime probably simply asks the author his opinion...). Although I just use the terminology already given...

But I agree with Tap here, town of beginnings does sound better(but NOT day of beginnings, that just sounds... broken. and lazy), since beginnings is more meaningful than starting(which is the place you start, town of beginnings would be a town where beginnings occur, such as where YOUR story would begin, if you were a gamer [which is also why day of beginnings sound lazy considering it is only about kirito])

@below: Exactly, it is the day everything begins, but it is only kirito's viewpoint that we see... before I say any more, what is the name of the story in JP?

I was thinking like... "Days of Beginnings... when everything begins".

Anyway, the wall of names' updated with anime's release.
Kains's Kains now and Kurama got slaughtered by Kuradeel, so we can take those as confirmed.
Coper's not a K, at any rate.
Misogi, confirmation on Argo and Diabel, please.
I'll be mass-changing the names after that.

I'll update the names' list ASAP. When I watch the first episode.

The bolded names will be checked on Saturday, in the 2nd episode, since they appear in Aria.

I'm sorry to bring this up again after we just changed the term NERvGEAR to Nerve Gear. But episode 1 gave a solid proof how the word is supposed to be written:

I propose the change of the term again, from Nerve Gear to NerveGear (without space).

Yay for all those who will change the names, i'll do it only if no one does it by this weekend ^^

Any opposition, though? I think the pic above is quite solid though.

Names and Terminology - Episode 1

Names

Episode 1
Kirito - Confirmed (Health Bar + Subs + Wall)
Cline -> Klein - Confirmed (Subs + Wall)
Kayaba Akihiko - Confirmed (Subs)

Episode 2
Argo - Unknown
Asuna - Confirmed (Health Bar)
Diabel - Unknown
Egil -> Agil - Confirmed (Subs)
Kibaou - Confirmed (Wall)

Later
Coper - Unknown (Seems to be uncheckable)
Heathcliff - Likely (ME2)
Kains - Confirmed (Wall)
Keita - Confirmed (Wall)
Cradil -> Kuradeel - Confirmed (ME2 + Wall)
Lizbeth -> Lisbeth - Confirmed (ME2 + Wallpaper)
Sachi - Unknown
Scilica -> Silica - Confirmed (ME2 + Wallpaper)
Yui - Unknown

Terminology

Related Chapters : Chapters 2, 3, 4 of Volume 1

Terms and context :
- Starting date is correct (November 6th, 2022).
- NerveGear : We'll use NerveGear, until I check that.
- Starting Town or Town of the Beginnings?
- Sword Art Online, Aincrad, Game Master, Warning and System Announcement are correct.
- Coll -> Col
- FullDive or Full Dive?
- The beta-test was held during two months. It's proved in the beginning, since Kazuto is watching last week's report. There is a month of break, the timeline is correct.
- 213 deaths before Kayaba's speech and 2000 deaths in one month are correct numbers.
- 2/12 implies that Aria happens after that date.

Potential edits :
Chapter 2 wrote:Klein stepped back a bit and put his right index finger and thumb together and pulled downwards.
He moved his right arm, he joined his index and his middle finger in the anime. Unless I was wrong when I saw it or if it wasn't faithful to the original source. Need someone to watch again the episode.

Feel free to ask for more details.

- NerveGear was written without space in Crunchyroll sub.
- Beta test is common English word, writing any way should be fine.
- Crunchyroll sub used 'Town of the Beginnings' as well, but I personally prefer 'Starting Town' more as the word 'of' makes it sound like alias/secondary name, like Venice - the City of Water.
- FullDive written full dive in Crunchyroll sub, in the novel author used the word 'Dive' both in English form and Kanji form, while he used English form, I put it as 'Dive' (capitalized D) and in Kanji form I used 'dive' without cap. As to 'Full Dive' or 'FullDive', it's fine either way to me.

Somebody please check where Kikuoka works within the Ministry.
5-1
Second Separated Advanced Network Division, or, as it's called within the ministry, the Virtual Storage Management Sector of the Communication Network's Management Division
6-16
Un, I can be certain that he's under the VR world Management sector.

- I'll ask the French company for verification.
- Ok, I removed the note.
- I don't know what's the better form in English.
- There was a picture with the word, but it doesn't help us, because we don't know if there's a space.

I don't know, but she is quite important to the plot. I doubt the anime would forget her, but let's wait until Saturday.
Try to see SAO's website, maybe there is something there.
