Hmm, you're right. I can't quite remember what the exact phrasing in the original was, but yeah, "without" is what naturally fits there.

"texture that could cut darkness itself" seems very strange. Texture can't cut anything. Dreamer, maybe you accidentally mixed up active and passive voices? "Texture that seemed to be cut out of darkness itself" sounds much better.
