Also remember Kadi, there's the matter of audience's preferences. I haven't read this yet, so I can't comment, but some Japanese comments I've read have commented that this may the most ecchi LN ever written. Of course, I'm sure there are other strengths. :D

Well, it's easy to read. And as you said, it's just what the audience wants. In that regard, it's quite similar to Sword Art Online. In a way, it's SAO with demons instead of virtual reality, only with ecchi, an uncool protag and a more open harem.

But... it's just as boring, to me. When the protag's in a pinch, you can be sure there is a way for him to go over his limits that appears out of nowhere and saves the day:
Look at my cool item, it doubles my miniscule power. But it's useless. WAIT, it doubles my power over and over again. It's incredibly strong. WAIT. I forgot, there are limitations. It's almost useless when it counts. WAIT. I can use it on others directly. It's totally awesome but we still lose. WAIT. I can cheat by becoming invincible right away, for a time and a price. Ohh, and the price isn't that much of a problem after all, actually it makes me get even more service from the girls.*End of Vol 2* But the next unannounced limit-break is waiting right ahead!

If it's like that, I prefer harems (almost) without fanservice and without ecchi, where the protag has to make do with what we know of from before. At least among harem stories. And I think I should shut up now ^^

Anyway, to each their own.
