BEWARE: THIS THREAD IS FULL OF SPOILERS!

The names and terminology page can be found here: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index ... Guidelines

Please use this thread to discuss/feedback any untranslated/disagreed names and terminology.

Due to having multiple staff, this thread keeps everything in one place so that we don't have discussions all over different talk pages.

Current Staff:
1. larethian (90% retired, 100% inactive, completely sporadic translator)
2. Kanannon (pot-shot translator)
3. Seitsuki (translator)
4. suarhnir (the translator who will be joining us once his cosplay stuff is done)

Anyone who has access to the raws and have read the story are free to contribute to the project specific guidelines directly. This thread is more for discussing alternative translations and other disagreements.

NOTE: People who want to avoid spoilers should get out of here.

キャスト・ジャミング > Caster jamming or cast jamming? Pretty minor, but standardisation is also important I guess.

Also, how would you TL 情報強化? It's listed under the magic countermeasures section but.. it's basically "information strengthning/reinforcing" or something along those lines isn't it?

キャスト・ジャミング = Cast Jamming

Because 情報強化 is a magic counter technique. This is my understanding of its mechanics (if I'm not wrong):
First, the user copies the opponent's Eidos. From that Eidos originally written by the opponent, the user applies the 情報強化 magic to an attribute in his own Eidos. It will then be difficult for the Eidos generated by the opponent to effect the user's Eidos with respect to that attribute.

Oh jeez, I think I need to re-read it again to make sure I get it right...... T_T.

My proposed translation of 情報強化 will be "Data Fortification".

領域干渉 --> either Domain Interference or Zone Interference

Seeing 領域干渉, my first thought was 絶対領域. Oh man I wanted to fit that in somehow so bad.. but I never could make it work.

十師族

Does this basically refer to (one of) the 10 families?

Would you TL it as such?

I already translated it as "Ten Master Houses" on the terminology page, didn't I? But I think "Ten Master Clans" may be more appropriate since the word is 族.

Ahh.. was in a hurry, and searching it on the page just turned up 'Juushizoku'. Will change it later.

Also: if 魔法工学技師 > Magic Engineer, 魔工師 > Magic Technician? Pretty unsure on this one as well

You can't use that because I already used "Magic Technician". You have to use your creativity.

I'm going through the Chapter 3 portion where the text is explaining leftover psions that cause the light effect.

If 想子 = Psion
And 想子光 = Psion Light (My suggestion, or maybe Psionic Light)

Then what does 光子 or specifically 光子干涉 become? My gut instinct would Light Particle, and subsequently Light Particle Interference, but I'm throwing it up here for further thought.

If I got it correctly, then the passage explaining this portion essentially says: After the activation and invocation stages, the leftover psions emit what is called a psion light. When there are enough leftover psions, light particle interference between psions result in a physical manifestation of light to the naked eye.

光子 is photon. You can use 'light particles' if you want to match 'Psion light'.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I'll go with photon since it is the technically correct term. I will add it to the list in the opening post.

EDIT: I have tentatively used Activation Sequence for 起動式. I believe earlier translations used Invoke (or Invocation) for 发动式.

Also, I would like to submit Magic Power for 魔法力. The reason I opted not use Magical Prowess is because I'm fairly certain that in later volumes, someone refers to Tatsuya's abilities as 超能力, with an emphasis on 力 as a noun. The line was something like: What he exhibited was beyond magic, it was a true 超能力. Taken into context, it would make more sense for to read it as having a Super or Special Power, rather than Super or Special Prowess.

If anyone has an alternate suggestion or idea, by all means, please let me know.

For 起動式, I think I've been going with activation ritual. Or something. What did Larethian and Kanaten use?

I've seen activation sequence... which I personally like better.
